I have no problem with "problem" dogs coming here either, should they be closer to the east coast. For now I
can't take a bunch all at once, but after the beginning of next year I should be expanding my kennel a bit.

Krazy Bout K9s

Marjorie, we need to know what the people are, rescue, or what??? Such as RompnRun? Available for what?? How do we know they will do what they say? We also need some sort of reference check for the people we don't know, There are transporters, we have found out in the past, that will steal dogs and sell them, we cannot just accept anyone...checks and balances needed.

A foster/transporter application to check out???

Also, I will also take dog in for adoption, not just a foster or transporter.
Hugs, Steph

I am in Bradford, Ontario (close to Toronto). What do you need to 'pull' a dog? Any special qualifications?

I can also provide transport within a reasonable distance, but the kennel really ties me down.

I REALLY need to check with the local shelters and get to know them.

I have 18 indoor kennels of different sizes, with adjoining outdoor runs, plus a basement apartment that's vacant. I could even foster a bitch with pups if need be.

In a pinch, I can even crate dogs and keep them in the garage, which can be sectioned off with x-pens. There's a small run off the garage too, with a board fence around it.

Okay what we need is a national gsd rescue team, a 501c3, How about the PDB GSD Rescue??? Tied in to Oli's name??? If it is okay with him? That way the volunteers in the differnt locations, like Sunsilver can pull dogs in the RESCUES name. Saves alot of hassle. WE NEED TO BE 501c3!!!! For this to happen.

To pull a dog, one either has to adopt or pull under a rescue with which that shelter works. Shelters will often find someone to pull who has a license to pull, who has worked with them before. Usually the dog must be altered or spayed unless it is going to a rescue but it must be spayed or altered, even if going to a rescue within a set period of time. That is why we have people offering to donate money, if they cannot transport or foster.

Steph,

The shelters I have worked with thus far requires vet references and personal references before the dogs are released. They call and check the references. The transporters used thus far have been recommended by the shelters or affilated with the rescue that have taken the dogs. The foster who is fostering Sarge has worked with many rescues and is well known by the shelter from where he is being pulled.

If you have a form, we could use it?

Oli is not in the USA I have been told. It takes almost a year to get a 501c3 and its expensive :( A lawyer friend of mine volunteered their time to do the papers when we applied for a 501c3 with the rescue I worked with.  Liability insurance is prohibitive and next to impossible to get. I remember when the rescue I worked with was formed- no one wanted to give liability insurance to a start up rescue and if they would, it was prohibitive. We did have to get BOD insurance, though.

If the PDB became a bonafide rescue, we would have to do more than foster, and I dont know who would be in for holding a dog for the length of time needed to adopt it out. :( I was thinking more on the lines of being rescue facilitators- in another words, making it easier for a rescue to take a dog by pulling, holding for transport, transporting and possibly helping with spay/neuter costs, which would make it easier for a rescue to take in a dog.

Thoughts, please?
