Eddy -if you want to call me "sneaky"- do so, if you want to learn about the breed, think twice.

Susie - Visum: "current" ? '96 (born 1990) ? Really ?
Not that there's anything wrong with him, but if we are
talking about the structure of dogs at this present time
[Lana, who is lovely, is a bit closer to today], then we
really do need to consider the dogs which made top
honours in Germany during the past few years - say
from 2010 onwards.
What's been said about sport/work people not wanting
showdog lines, and vice versa, is, of course, a large part
of the picture we are dealing with: i.e. setting aside owners
& breeders willing to consider merging both (for good and ill
purposes, - some of the unthinking, puppy-farmers do the
same, 'cos they just use what is easiest available !).
The problems I still have, IMO, are conveying to 'doubters'
(and to those people who do not really have any clue what
they are seeing) that if they see 'yer average' dog pictured on
the 'Net etc, particularly if it is stacked by an amateur,
it does not give a true picture of the structure of the best bred
dogs.
American folk so used to seeing ASL lines whereever
they turn will subconciously excuse softer spines and the
additional length, or depth, because that is what they are most
used to.
People in both America and Europe, buying less wonderful
specimens with 'hinged' upward backlines, will accept all
sorts of flaws because they cannot bear to admit that, mostly,
your countrymen hang onto the better specimens, they do not
export them. NOT TRUE OF EVERY IMPORTED DOG; AND
NOT TRUE OF EVERY INDIVIDUAL DOG or owner; but true
enough to skew public perceptions.

"Current" - bred after the so called "split"...
Nino von Tronje VA2 in 2012
Do you really believe Eddy would have seen a difference?
Instead of looking at pics people should look at real dogs and start training and showing them.
Just my personal opinion...

Susie, yes the breed has evolved, but the structure of a workingdog is not rocketscience, just look at other breeds used for working or a wolf, all of them has the same type of structure and the GSD today looks identical to Utz that the breed founder liked really much, at least some of them. The resaon for the split is not a certain way of thinking, why would either camp benefit from each other if one is breeding dogs for police/service and the other is mainly intressted in dogs that is good for todays shows? Yes, if crossing showlines with workinglines willl give me better health, workingstructure and character, then it´s a good idea, but this is not so, or is anyone really disagree with that fact?

Susie:
You are right, but it is the result of people judging from
static pictures that we have the sort of questions and
erratic comments we do, on here. No, probably Eddy
wouldn't notice any differences between Visum and Nino,
but that wasn't my point. If we are dealing with what
people "think" is 'good' or 'bad' in the Now, we need to
keep successful dogs that are 'in the Now' to the forefront.
Going back to any part of the breeds past, illustrating this
'split' or that 'division' just keeps the debate mired in the
past, playing into the views of those who argue dogs were
"better & different" before: 1940 / 60 / 80/ 90; its all fairly
irrelevant, isn't it ?

Johan - if you are right, this dog wouldn´t be able to work, because Pyke´s structure is the "modern" structure, similar to the high rated Showlines, and there are a lot more out there.
But maybe it´s only his color that makes him work? ( Sorry, I had to say this)
Naked chicken - how are you doing? You see, I´ll never give up...
by Dawulf on 29 March 2013 - 17:03
The only thing I really don't like about Pyke is the fact that his neck is super long... but that doesn't hinder workability or anything, that's just me nit-picking. But like I said, I can nit-pick about every dog posted. :P
And thanks Melba... I just like what I like. xP
