midnightsday

our 16 month male GSD has had occasionally a blackish tone on his tongue. our vet put him on antihistamine (loraidin) & has had light pink tongue most of the time. The dark color is back after temperature increased to 80's. he does have an 75% black coat with tan & sable. He has had blood work (2 months ago). We food allergy (loose stool & bile & slight underweight) & changed his diet 12 months ago to Merrick can & dry. Any suggestions?

What did the blood work show you? When your vet looked at your dog did he have someone do a cardio consult?

Do you know if the dog has been vomiting? That happened to one of my girls when she was really sick. Her tongue looked dead and scared heck out of me. They said it was partially bruising from straining to vomit and partially burned from stomach acid.

sorry, tests were done for parvo 9 months age. Just went to vet today to start new tests. Vet mentioned blood look thin, when drawing should have results Tuesday (CBC & profile, heart-worm). Tongue appears to have a black or very dark strip (1/4) down the middle with dark pink on remainder and a light pink underside. Physical body examine showed normal in all areas and temp normal. Continuing on "Loratadine" 10mg once a day. will post with results, thank you for any help.
