I WANT UPDATES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Any puppies yet?? I should have said PUPDATES..lol

by VomMarischal on 11 March 2010 - 21:03

Nothing.
I went to the vet today because of course Jonathan would FREAK OUT if anything went wrong with her, even though she had no fever and seemed fine. Yes, she should probably start hard labor soon after starting with the mucous strings, but they checked for bacteria (perfect) and then did a freebie ultra-sound to make sure all hearts are beating. Looked like 6 perfectly happy puppies, and Bella nagged everybody in the office for treats. They estimate that she'll start dropping them in our immediate future. Last night was AWFUL with her pacing and climbing all over me, Jeeze. But she is eating like a pig still. She's fine, just being slow. But no way was I taking any chances with her.

PS. She has gained exactly 20 lbs!!!!

Let's see...that's what, one pound per puppy?

[ducks, runs...]

I'm not too convinced of the reliability of ultrasounds, after the vet predicted 2 or 3 puppies for my friend's Shiloh bitch, and we got NINE!

We might not have lost the last two, if we'd been expecting a bigger litter...

by VomMarischal on 11 March 2010 - 22:03

Yes, I shall certainly keep that in mind!

Go and measure her temperature. It should drop a few hours before whelping to about 98. That is a sure sign that the big event is right around the corner.
I wish you fun. The first 4 weeks are easy but afterwards...
We had 9 puppies, and I admittedly will be happy when some leave next week. They are terribly vicious and loud, nasty ankle biters. I need to recuperate. LOL!

I'm in luck...one of my buyers is coming over to help stand watch tonight! Gee, maybe I can actually go to WORK in the morning...
