Serious question David:  why don't you subscribe and submit your ideas and opinions for printing?

Does the magazine not "belong" to all of us?  Is it not up to all of us to make it better, more interesting etc?

Everything that's wrong with the Shepherd show scene is not down to the BC, though I do agree that more could probably be done by the BC re: KC ticket allocations, mandatory working tests etc.

I subscribed until last December, I advertised prolifically for many many years, regularly having the back page full colour for a whole year, year in and year out. I know about this magazine and its problems. I can analyze and predict the direction of prevailing situations. Make no mistake what I have said in ALL of my posts on this thread should be read, absorbed and taken very seriously, IF YOU REALLY WANT A BETTER FUTURE FOR OUR BREED HERE IN THE UK.

jim h: you should try and become a delegate to the BC, then attend and observe. If you had done this anytime over the last 20 years you would have been appalled at what you observed.

missbeeb: I have written comprehensive proposals over the years to genuinely and meaningfully address the most serious issues detrimentally effecting our breed and our show scene. The Breed Council (influential minority) have killed off each and every one. They clearly lack vision, imagination, and lack a genuine willingness to tackle our breed problems on the scale required. In the near future I and several others will retire from our breeds show scene, as many others have done in the past. There is precious little new blood coming into our breed scene, simply because our breed scene is so unattractive. What makes it unattractive needs to be clearly understood, and needs to be addressed. It sounds simple but it is not simple, it requires a series of solutions NOT just one solution.

Each solution to each aspect of what is unattractive will contribute to our moving forward. real progress. However there is some tough decisions to be made, for instance on the allocation of CC's, and the reduction of our CC rotation system. We urgently require our top GSD Breed Clubs to hold CH. Shows annually, and we urgently require a top Breed Club CH. Show each and every month of the year. This has been obvious for a number of years, and still
NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE TO BRING IT ABOUT.

OK... so who or what holds "us" back?

I've only recently "dipped my toes in the water again" re showing and I don't see that too much has changed, but some things have definately gotten worse... imo.

I can't believe that all is lost; there are too many good, honest and knowledgeable people in our breed for us to have no hope, though quite how we are supposed to go forward and improve our lot if all useful requests and suggestions are ignored, escapes me.

I'm still bewildered as to why the two tier registration system was not seriously fought for with the KC... who does seriously represent us?  Who fights our corner?  Maybe we should select our representative/s with more care and with an eye to the future?

The GSD Breed Council has lost any crumb of authority within our breed it may have had. Any credibility it may have enjoyed, disappeared sometime ago. It is regarded as largely a negative influence and it stifles any real opportunities of progress. I gave it full support for many years, and I subscribed to its magazine and spent many thousands advertising in it, Videx GSD almost owned the back page for years with full colour adverts. I stopped advertising and subscribing because of the appalling editorial control. I pointed this out over a year or more before I decided enough was enough.

The content of this months magazine contains articles which fundamentally undermine our British Sieger committee, and our WUSV Clubs vital contribution in progressing our Sieger Show, written by someone who does not exhibit and is on the working side of BAGSD, which I will point our again is NOT a Breed Council member Club, but has open access to its magazine.

Another article in the magazine is about our UK SV judges (working) - yet the senior person responsible for our working side within the UK, knew nothing about it, was not consulted, so now we have another dis-jointed and potentially damaging article in the magazine. Could you imagine the SV allowing any article written by any person, member or not a member, which may impact on their policy regarding the GSD, working or show, in any kind of negative way?

The editorial control of the BC magazine is out of control, and is destroying the magazine and severely damaging aspects of our breed. It is about time this was understood and stopped.

It is clear that the Breed Council Clubs and delegates and officers, have serious issues with the Secretary and editor, and they have no idea how to resolve them, so they "look the other way" and "ignore the obvious" and "tolerate the ridiculous".
This has to stop and stop very soon if we are to begin our fight against apathy and contempt within our breed. We need to fight this before we can successfully promote the magazine, and all other aspects of our breed, show scene, working, breeding etc. I will then subscribe to the magazine, and support it with adverts and articles, and even promote it on my website.

Putting on a brave face, and failing to tackle fundamental problems will not save the magazine or the Breed Council, or our GSD Breed Show scene. When something is disintegrating the causes need to be identified and sorted out, any delay makes it worse until it is beyond saving.

David we all need freedom of speech that is a fundamental right and part of our life here in Britain as long as that freedom of speech is not libel or lies and as i read it these were their own opinions to which they have a right to express as you have a right to agree or disagree, a magazine that only prints what people want to hear would not last long. If as you say their is serious issues with the secretary and editor then they must do something about it and not stick their heads in the sand.
