Sorry both - well, let you down actually on this one.  Why?  because it was a tricky one and I seem to keep pushing it to the back of my head, Here goes.

Koerung:   I am glad that I decided upon this event, and was very very pleased that we got the interest and spectatorship.  I got the numbers that I expected, as its a new thing in the UK, and peoples have varying reasons why not to be entering at present... i.e. dogs not ready, not qualified to do a Koerung, un sure about Koerung etc etc  -  three were entered.   One lady had to be pulled, as she didnt have her Sch.h.1 yet, and whereas it was permissible before 12 months ago, to hold the Koerng report until the Sch.h. had been achieved, it is now a rule of the SV that it isnt and the dog must go into the ring, already with the Sch.h. title, so that lady had to pull.  The second lady rang up at entry close and apologise profusely that she had not been able to work her dog in the bad snowy weather, so would not be competing....a little dissappointed then, and so that whittled down to ONE  -  MINE !!!
This was CH Mascani Odessa who gained Kkl.1.

Leibenzeit:  3 entrants  -  again, one pulled at last moment, down to two.... both were awarded their Lbz.
They were  Astana Daggi                    Sch.h.1.  BH  AD  Kkl.1. dna geprufft
and            Astana Dayna at Mascani  Sch.h.1.  AD BH Kkl.1.  dna geprufft.

AD:  5 entrants   - Kim Powdrill; with Vonmeister Yorky - Shirley Hutchinson with Mascani Ikon - Sam Brookes with Kamantas Bethany - Paul Sobelweski with Destinys Child - Judy Hallsworth with Kleeheugel Bonno -   All passed.

BH:   Shirley Hutchinson with Mascani Ikon  Alan Wood with Tyguard Falco - Judy Halsworth with Keelheugel Bonno Kim Powdrill Vonmeister Yorky Elis Beaumont with Brynclen Bannoffee Pie.   4 passes - one fail.  Our big dissappointment of the day was Yorky, who had already gained her BH before, and was dojng this to gain the SV qual.  Yorky decided he didnt like that particular bike for the road test !  Much to everyones surprise and disgust with him bad lad, as he went on to do the AD - on bike - with flying colours  but of course it was too late to be counted in as his BH test!!

Sch.h.1.   -  Gavin Buck with Stormhaus Athena  -   total score  236
Sch.h.2.   -  Richard Harrison with Ransoms Zenos    "       "     257
Sch.h.3.   -  Darren Hague with Ursus von Olschnabel"       "     260
Stuart Nye with Carlsbro Ozzie               "       "     178
Tom Nye with Magical Mayhem von HausNye   "    190
                   Jason Rogers with Tyguard Delta

Could I ask why a soft puppy sleeve was being used for the bitework for the Koerung dogs?

Especially as the dogs entered had Sch1 as mentioned above.

Hi Mike,

I didnt see what sleeve was used, and I certainly didnt organise a sleeve for the Keorung dogs, as you say, they are all three Sch.h.1 dogs.   I will ask though, in case you are wrong (I hope you are - but something tells me you arent  it sounds like a question a bit loaded with answers !!

All I can tell you is that my two girls work with us at three different clubs, on differing helpers and they use firm sleeves.  I am totally new to doing the "handler" bit as I had to do on the day, first time ever in fact, not able to do a prcatice to see what I had to do as the ring was being used for practice - and obviously you were there to see the way it went....I havent done any handler work on protection before, so didnt even wonder about what sleeve for what, I left that to the helper.  Will let you know, but it doesnt give me a great concern for the future.   Mo.

Hi Penny,

Thankyou for you response.

May I ask another question......

Is it normal practice to measure a dog using a rigid steel retractable tape measure? I would have thought a fabric type one would give an accurate measurement when measuring the chest etc.

Whilst on the subject of measuring, would it not have been more accurate to measure a dogs height when stood on level ground, rather than on the uneven ground it was conducted on?

Regards,

Mike.

Hi Mikey

There were available -

1.  a Gazebo inside of the ring for the Keorung - as etiquette and for judges equipment

2.  Canine Scales were available and a generator was kindly loaned  for  the use of,

3.  A tape measure was put into the box - small fabric one with the paperwork

4.  8` x 4` piece of 1/2" ply wood was available for dogs to be stood on for both measuring and for the scales.

5.  Measuring stick

6.  Gun and blanks

7.  All relevant SV paperwork on laptop

The only missing item when asked for, was unfortunately the fabric tape.  It has NEVER been found, but  it was packed into the box of requirements - and checked that very morning.  Therefore we needed  a measure and the one offered was accepted by the judge.   Perhaps you should ask him if he was content with his measurements.

From a personal level, if I was asked to measure a dogs girth, and given a choice, I would choose a fabric tape, but I wouldnt be bereft if I had to use a thin metalic one that was pliable - and if I did it properly, then it should measure the same.

So.   To conclude, I know we had all of the  equipment ready and were willing to use it.  We were found wanting with our little fabric tape measure though.     Mo

A question for you Mikey  -

I see that you only joined the board on the 4th April to add this comment regarding the Koerung, so thanks so much for your interest..... but were you at the AGM?   I will give you a clue, it is a loaded question !    Mo.

Mikey, wouldn't have been you by any chance that pinched the fabric tape measure?????
