bazza: A nearly accurate summary.
Should read: Three or more people etc.
It is the "or more" that may mark the difference between a "worthy Champion" and an "arranged Champion"
Most GSD folk understand the difference.

No only 3 peoples opinions, 3 cc's, are required to be called a show Champion, no more no less. Some never see another, some continue to win CC's.  I certainly know the difference, as should anyone who " knows " a correct GSD. There are many dogs with several CC's who in my opinion are unworthy, and those with 3 who are. I believe a CC should be harder to get, how that would be done i do not know, but some are handed out far too easily. I strongly believe NO PUPPY should be even eligable for a CC.

We could go on forever discussing whether one dog/bitch or another is worthy of being a Champion, but at the end of the day their will always be CHEATING whether it be direct or indirect, it has gone on in every walk of life since the beginning of time. Those that see the opportunity will take it, those that have “connections” will use them and those that would never do it are the ones with the scruples and the conscience. However, as long as the opportunists and the connectors are allowed to continue on their course the others will just have to stand back and watch. No one SINGLE PERSON is going to change the rot in this Breed. It takes a MAJORITY of OTHERS to press for change.

HOWEVER, the powers that be, and at the present time the power is with the Kennel Club and until they change their regulations there will continue to be CHEAP CHAMPIONS and PUPPY CHAMPIONS. They are so blinkered by the £££££££££££££ that even they cannot see that THEY can change things for the good by working with the GSD Community to make changes that would revolutionise the Breed as it stands today.

Here are a few ideas how the Kennel Club could/should change the System/Regulations allowing only those dogs worthy of being Champion to become just that.

1. NO DOG or BITCH UNDER THE AGE OF 2 YEARS TO BE AWARDED A CC OR RES CC UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES – which means only dogs/bitches in Classes Post Graduate, Limit and Open can be awarded these accolades.

2. The Kennel Club should accept that ONLY dogs/bitches whose Hips & Elbow scores, and of course Haemophilia Clear Males PLUS UK Breed Surveys within the limits allowed, can be awarded CCs or Res CCs – this means that the Entry Forms should be amended to have a column for such scores to be declared. THEREFORE, only those dogs/bitches who fall within the acceptable limits of the health schemes in place in the UK can be entered in Post Graduate, Limit or Open Classes. This would be a MASSIVE LEAP FORWARD in preventing dogs/bitches who are not eligible for breeding being entered into the adult classes and thus in line for the status of Champion.

The Kennel Club DO HAVE THE ABILITY and the wherewithal to do this, but they are so blinkered they cannot see the woods for the trees.

Yes, it would eliminate many many dogs, but is this not what you ALL want, only those dogs who are worthy of being Champions become Champions. I cannot remember ever being at any BREED CHAMPIONSHIP SHOWS where there are have NOT been dogs/bitches worthy of the title Champion, but until the ones with the high hips scores, no elbow scores (whether they be BVA or SV) or bad elbow scores are weeded out by one System or another, whichever comes out on top in the present climate, then unworthy dogs/bitches will continue to gain their Titles and be bred from.

Those judging play a massive part in all of this – if the regulations and system was changed then ALL JUDGES would know that the dogs entered in Post Graduate, Limit and Open Classes were ALL WORTHY of the title because they CANNOT enter unless they fall within the guidelines of the health issues – THEREFORE it is then a more level playing field for ALL ENTRANTS to win the title of Champion. If this system was put in place then Judges cannot therefore give a CCs or Res CCs to their pals dogs who have major health issues.

This of course still does not eliminate the “you scratch my back and I will scatch yours”, but it does make sure that ONLY DOGS/BITCHES within the guidelines will win their TITLES.

For someone who is new on this show scene , i was directed to this site where i hoped to find showmanship, helpfulness and a sport thats trying to bring in more and more members , but reading the different posts day after day it seem s that this business is full of betrayal , lies , deceit and dishonesty. Its just one more drama after another.

good post Aileen but the kc want do anything about it as all they care about is £££££££

Shammy you are right  there are some people like that but there are  some  true honest breeders out there that love and care for the breed  so please dont give up as this breed needs new honest people who have the breed at heart and not just a red rosette or cc
