I remember a few years back I had cause to speak to the K.C. to get advice on a certain procedure, I was put through to a high ranking official who said, the K.C. will not discuss any issues with individuals, or any individual breed club, but only with the Breed Council who represented all the individual clubs. How times have changed! I believe any further discussion with the K.C. should be with either the Partnership, (who are supposed to be dealing with this issue) or the Breed Council who are the governing body of the breed clubs. If the K.C. wont extend the time for a reply, then read Sue's last paragraph which I whole heartedly agree with. It may be time to call the K.C. bluff,  once and for all. regards Bill Owen.

How about we do as they do and ignore their letters?  They're going to have our CCs anyway!

I may have a go at writing to my MP again, he was pretty good last time, though the KC fed him a load of BS and it's hard to make those not "in dogs" understand the reality.  This is when the likes of Jemima Harrison could do much to help, by showing the KC up for what it really is... a money making old boys Club, preventing us from improving the health of our chosen breed/s.  THAT really IS what they do... God forbid they should do anything that might actually cost them a few quid!  Where does their (our) money go, who earns what at the KC?

I'm not certain that what they've done is "legal" and it may well be advisable to seek legal advice about this; we have been singled out and yet we have fewer and less serious problems than many breeds, I honestly think that this amounts to abuse of power and harrassment... and probably more!

Fight or flight?

Brilliant post MissBeeb.

The Kennel Club GSD Press Release - January 2010 - MAY BREACH STATUTORY "CONTRACT LAW"

The following paragraph may actually breach statutory contract law, it is illegal to prevent or restrict via a contract. "

9. The Club confirms that it will act in good faith with the Kennel Club on all matters including confirmation that it will not, without the express permission of the Kennel Club, run any events under the rules or regulations of any organisation other than the Kennel Club.

NO OTHER BREED is requested to give such a DECLARATION as contained in the above paragraph.

Well, I do have an idea, some people may say its a bit childish.  All I can personally see is Letters, Petitions etc.. going backwards and forwards and going no where.  The Kennel Club are laughing at us all as they have the Upper Hand and to me always will have.  My idea is a Demonstration outside the Kennel Club Offices, get the Press and News involved, take ACTION, meet it all HEAD ON. People do Demonstrate and they Demonstate in what they believe in .. And I beleive in the German Shepherd Dog going forward, not being held back.   Everybody should be there not just 6 people, make a date everybody can meet and no excuses as to me this is the only chance we have.

"SAVE OUR BREED, SAVE OUR BREED, SAVE OUR GSD"   a great slogan which will shock The money making  Kennel Club.

Just like to add,  why are we going to Dog Training Clubs training our dogs through Double Handling, should it be stopped there aswell, if its to do with Health and Safety.  I can not see us all standing there like Zombies watching our dogs being trained in slience.

Kind Regards

Kerry

I have just read the KC requirements as set out in Dog World.

I would like to comment as follows on the points set out in Dog World.

Point 2. The question of unsoundness along with all of the other faults discovered are a matter for the Judge to decide upon and, should already be penalised during the judging process. A Judge cannot be expected to have a committee member beside him deciding whether he is right or wrong during the judging process.

Point 3. How will a Club educate the Judges regarding the correct conformation etc, particularly, for example a German SV judge who has qualified by examination in his homeland. Any such action would be an affront to the visiting judge and the German SV, the homeland of our breed. Also, how does a Club go about this exercise if there is no member with that Club having achieved the status of Championship Judge. Is the tail going to wag the dog? These rules will also have to apply to All Breed Shows because the KC have made the point that “The Society confirms that as far as is possible GSD’s will be allocated to a breed ring in a position among the other show rings.” How many All Breed Societies will go along with this, or, will they just drop our breed all together?

The biggest point to come out of all this is that the KC have taken a stand with their comment that “The KC has been waiting since July for the GSD community as a whole to suggest a meaningful and practical way forward etc, etc. The problem here is that, as the KC well know, the breed will never be able to comply as a whole because of the differences within the breed i.e. the Alsatianists and, this division has been partly driven by the KC itself because it helps their case.

IMPORTANT - NB

Well I recieved the said Contract today. I fully agree with Johns (Members) sentiments, though I need to point out that we do have a little more time than John seems to think. The actual wording for return of the contracts is that Clubs should, "Have forwarded one signed copy of the enclosed Undertaking ON or Before Wednesday 31st March 2010." In other words we all have time to meet collectively to decide how we should proceed because even if the decision is made for all Clubs to sign this Undertaking providing a Post Office proof of posting is obtained, the signed contract need not be posted back until Wed 31st March 2010.

Kerry, EXCELLENT IDEA !! But why stop at the KC? Why not have a march, with our dogs, from the KC through to No. 10 Downing Street where we hand over our petition and specifically mention how most of our views, wishes, requests etc are in line with the findings of the AGPAW report. IF we get enough people to March, this should get into the National News Papers as well as possibly catch some coverage on Television News Programmes, would certainly alert the Public as well as the Goverment of the KC's Discrimination against the GSD Breed Community purely because in the KC's opinion THEY ASK FOR FAR TOO MUCH. IN OTHER WORDS WE CARE TOO MUCH ABOUT THE HEALTH AND WELFARE OF OUR BREED that it embarrasses the KC so much that they have to find alternative ways of SHUTTING US UP, even to the extent of attempting (In Item 9 of the Undertaking) to prevent us from holding shows the rules of which ENSURE that ONLY THE HEALTHIEST GSD's are PROMOTED , of which the same cannot be said of shows run  under KC licence. Any dog can win there, with or without health checks.
NOW THAT POINT ALONE WEILDS A VERY STRONG SWORD - IF JUSTICE FOR THE GSD IS TO BE ACHIEVED

PS - Hi twinnie nice to see you back!! lol

When oh when are we going to realise that the KC do not want to talk about there ultimatum they want us to adhere to it and do as they say the GSDP has got nowhere with the KC because the KC are not interested in what (they) we have to say and the longer we try to get them to see it our way the more we will get divided and the KC know this (divide and conquer) so lets stop messing  about get all our breed clubs to hold a special meeting and take a vote on leaving or staying with the KC  then take it from there

Kerry and Sue excellent ideas!!! After reading this release several times, simply because i couldn't believe what i was reading, like Penny no 9 concerned me, also no 7. Does this mean that visiting judges have to agree to judge the KC's way also? That's surely going to endear them to come here!!!!  No 3, educating judges on correct conformation and movement? Alsation or German Shepherd? The sheer lack of much mention of health issues, double handling being the main issue of this release shows me exactly why we are the only breed being 'contracted'.
Kerry said above "the kennel club are laughing at us", i think the whole bloody GSD world will be laughing at us if anyone signs these ludicrous contracts and are pepared to go along with this blackmail!!!!
Missbeeb you are right....SINK or SWIM???? Or in the words of Katherine Tait's character Nana" What a load of old sh--- "!!!! Liz
