Put me down for £50

Linda

by SHERNAA on 09 January 2010 - 09:01

Sue, an excellent idea, please put me and Philip down for £50 each, so £100.
At this very 'tiring' moment with The Kennel Club I do think we need to try everything possible to help our beloved GSD.

Just like to add, shouldn't the GSDP be putting money in first;  The GSD League, The Breed Council and BAGS, don't they have good money in their pots??

Kind Regards

Kerry

Does anyone remember the case the GSA in Ireland had with the Irish Kennel Club.  Briefly the IKC told the GSA that if anyone showed at their functions (the GSA ones) they would not be able to show under the IKC again.  To cut a long story short the GSA took them to the competition authority and won.  So it is possible to make a point through other means.  Might be interesting although different scenarios to get in touch with someone who pioneered this case.

In a previous post ( Hutch) Shirley made reference that the average member of the GSD world ie pet owners do not care about CC``s or the breed in general. If you want money from the LEAGUE or BAGSD these are the very people we must get on board these people are THE MEMBERS not just the few who contribute to this FORUM we are in the minority. When you add up the few people who will donate £50 as opposed to thousands who could be pledging £5 if  they knew what was going on I am sure you must understand it is the Members we need to get on side . Mention Hips to any pet owner, forget all the other problems just Hips and they will understand what we are trying to achieve as well as our fight against the KC with regards to health issues. Keep it simple with those who are just Breed enthusiast and pet owners , it is the Membership of the larger breed clubs who can make a difference if a vote is taken to provide money to take action against the KC.  The Breed Council is not a club and has no money to pledge but it`s panel members claim no expenses to attend meetings and those that work with the GSDP  do this out of their own pocket . We do need to start a paypal this is for sure. John Ward

Challenging the KC under ‘judicial review’? Are you mad? I have never heard such foolish advice. I am a solicitor and I really cannot stand by and watch anyone go on this fool’s errand. The only people who gain by that are lawyers and what is the gain to anyone else? The fact is that IF the GSD community wants to take legal action against the KC then the representative bodies of the community should seek advice formally and decide exactly what it is that they want to know and do. This should not be decided on the basis of advice from some unnamed lawyer off stage who has been asked questions of which we know nothing and who may or may not know what all this is about.

Surely the main question in all this is whether the GSD community wants to sign up to this KC contract or whether it wants to set up its own shows (and perhaps more)? Concentrating on that will be infinitely more productive than embarking on unnecessary and costly legal action which has no obvious purpose.

I have to agree with Peterlee, from what we have seen of the KC attitude so far, their contract will be non-negotiable as far as they are concerned. We have to decide what we really want as an alternative and work for this NOW. The pledge money could be used to set up an alternative body to arrange shows and events more in line with the WUSV system, I know from talking to people there is a good body of people out there willing to get started on this. We need pledges of money and more importantly support, if everyone entered the first event, even if they couldnt attend, it could be the biggest GSD event in many years, that would show hugh support for NON   KC events and raise money from entries for future events.

I agree with Carol. Much better to spend limited money in the way she suggests. No-one should ever get involved in any litigation unless (1) it is unavoidable, (2) there is a clear gain to be had from it and (3) it is economic to pursue that. Unless you want to line the pockets of lawyers for no good reason then do please listen to what Carol is saying.

This maybe stating the bleeding obvious but maybe not all people here in the UK know that the SV is run completely independently of the German Kennel Club, so we would be doing what they have done in Germany for 100 years.
