You are right, Tom, every decent put together dog is worth showing. I went with my black sable girl to the NC regional show for the last couple years. But felt really silly in between all the showlines. We made a G with a terrible performance as she was in full heat besides of it raining dogs and cats, and the ring had to be moved into the parking lot. The year before she was VP.

OG Carolina is well known for the biggest names in the show scene, maybe thats why I am kind of hesitant. Yet I think that this boy is nicely put together. He is east german on the father, and Hagenberg, Stadtfeld, bose Nachbarschaft on the mothers side. Both parents are V rated. Btw .. he is sable as well.

If I can get a SCHH1 on my female before the show I might consider her for the breed survey there also. Lots to train still, and not much time...LOL Not to mention the mudd!

Elkoor,
Ruediger Mai is a very nice and decent judge. He does not give placements and ratings away, but he is fair. I remember showing under him in 1993 in Long Island: I had a super nice female out of my first breeding, 8 months old. He put her in first place immediately. After a few rounds, he pulled her paperwork and put her last. I was devastated. Afterwards, I asked him why and he said that the ear  was flopping and at that age, it needed to be up and he did not think it would correct itself anymore. That was the reason for her being placed in the end, even though she was the best puppy. Unfortunately, it proved that he was right and she did have an ear weakness.
If your dog is prepared for the show ring and knows how to gait, you will get the rating he deserves. We show workinglines too and our philosophy is always to not give an excuse for a bad placement. That goes for any dog shown, as a matter of fact. I hope to see and get to meet you at that show. If we get a good handler, we will show our black boy again in the workingclass males and our showline male needs to be resurveyed for life.

I used to have dark red sables(Going back to Fortune of Arbywood) from Am-bred SLs. Newborn red sable pups were difficult to distinguish from B/T littermates unless one opened their coat and saw the orange undercoat.

A very interesting debate .Really enjoyed reading  about and looking at the colour variations .
