This is one of those truly wonderful threads that could go on forever, as far as I am concerned.  Lots of interesting, well articulated information, tons of gorgeous dog pictures to drool over!  Just makes my day! Thanks everyone, for sharing your glory here with everyone! Your dogs are beautiful, & I love to learn about color & pattern heritability. I wish I could visit them all, & meet each one of you, thanks again & continued success to you all! jackie harris

Look to the left margin for pedigree search and  look for Jupaala Francesca, a grand daughter of Timo Berrekasten.

I love dark red sables that have nice bone and a body. Same with black sables. I just do not prefer the thin body, light boned sables with the lighter greys. I just love a good structure and deep coloring with substancial bone.  Never will I love a sable more than the total package of Ronaldo von Arlett . The world needs more like him IMO and I know several who will agree. I could just look at him all day with that structure and I heard his termperment is just as divine.

What color are the bellies of your sable puppies? Just wondering because in my new litter, all the bellies are solid black.

I have a Showline sable female  out of a Timo granddaughter (Jana vom Danziger Tor).  Alina just turned 2 years old, is getting darker with each coat change and has very substantial bone, great conformation and what drives.  The picture needs to be updated, as it really doesn't do her justice.  But I love the look of her and enjoy not knowing what her final coat will be until she is 3.

I have come to appreciate the sable, whether Working or Show. And to me, a GSD is beautiful, whether it is WL or SL when they are working.

I just read the whole thread and I must say..clean, respectful, informative thread I seen on this site.......

sorry...to my point...

When I was looking for my first GSD I came across a litter where there was 2 white/grey sable puppies (they were about 18 weeks at that time)  they were gorgeous to look at, I wasn't looking for a show dog or even a working dog just a pet as a companion to run with and go to mountains with so at that time papers, parents didn't really matter....well now years later I am yet to see white/grey sable in any shows or events...is white/grey color sable not "desired" in a "professional" world? if we have every possible variation of sable, do lightest colors fall short of whats popular and wanted or are they just a naturally rare occurrence?

Hey Lady Frost!

I don't know if this dog has the type of coloration that you are referring to.  Her name is Ingka von Schraderhaus.  She is not my dog, but I really like her looks.  Her pedigree can be seen here:

www.pedigreedatabase.com/german_shepherd_dog/pedigree/573481.html

She seems to have been something of an anomaly in her coloring, but I am not savy enough on color genetics to tell you the why's and what's of it.

Rebecca Rodgers from California bred Jago vom Valkyre, a very nice Timo son who went V 1  Very nice dog and i liked seeing him work too.  So I guess there is more then just one "show line" sable breeder out there, surprise!

Steve, good morning

Thats pretty much what I was refering to....i think that crispy clean white undercoat with black/grey tips is gorgeous, don't get me wrong I love your popular tan and black...but something about white/silver blend is sooo attractive..and so hard to find.

This has been a terrific thread!!!  Very interesting, and I must say I would love to get a Sable Showline, I've always liked sables, and I am partial to the showlines...  But I have to say I love those black sables too....
