I let her out after I got home from work and she usually goes down to the neighbors house and plays with their lab for about an hour and then comes home.  About 7:30 I went out to call her in and she didn't come and she always comes when you call her.......always.  So we all went on a search wich is really hard to do when there is 40 acres and it's dark outside.  We drove up and down the highway looking, nothing.  We looked everywhere.  I notified Home Again and they put out an alert.  Please God bring her home to me.  I have to wait till the mourning to get a hold of anyone at the humane society and see if they picked her up.  I am going to make flyers in the morning and start passing them out.  I am beside myself with panic and fear.  Please Pray for her safe return soon.  Thank You.

Halley, I know how you feel, I had a terrier dig out under our fence once.  He was gone for 2 days and he isn't the brightest dog I ever owned.  I made flyers, called all surrounding police departments, animal control, vets and emergency clinics.  The police called on the second day to say they'd spotted him in the middle of the night on a walking trail about three miles away but he wouldn't come to them.  That part of the trail is about three miles from highway to highway and also has a fairly high coyote population.  I was beside myself, searching everywhere, calling.  He ended up coming home on his own at almost midnight on the second day.  He couldn't get in the fence and wasn't used to coming in through the front door, so he went next door and knocked on their door!  LOL.  He was tired, hungry, scared and stunk to high heave, be he was home.

There was also a dog posted on here that was missing at least a month, sighted but not captured.  He had been traveling with owner and was also in unfamiliar territory, another state.  With the help of the people here, he was eventually caught and returned to his relieved owner.

Hope springs eternal, I'm hoping you find your girl, my heart goes out to you.  Please, from now on, don't let her out unsupervised, never assume she'll be back.  And please give us updates, maybe somebody in your area can help.

Where are you located???

I hope you find her & all ends up well & she is safe. Please learn from this though & don't let her run free without supervision anymore. Way to many risks when doing so.

I have a dog (mutt) who is an escape artist.  He knows better than to challenge us, but if we have visitors over and they leave the door cracked he will push past and is gone.  He also goes through these phases of digging under the fence/gate to get at rabbits.  He's escaped probably half a dozen times and it's always terribly scary.  We always catch him within a half hour (either he backs himself into a corner in someone else's yard, stops to poop, or we bait him back with food).  It's very scary for me because we live in the city, half a block off one of the busiest streets in the state.  We generally do not go out after the dog because it becomes a game to him and we end up pushing him close to the busy street.  The last few times, I've gone out just to see where he's at (he never really runs away, he just goes about a block away to sniff around) and then I bait the yard with dog food.  When I see him come back my husband runs out the other door and shuts the gate.  Lately he has only been free in the yard (fenced!) when I am out there.  If I don't want to go out or it's dark, I put him on a tie-out, inside the fenced yard.  He is microchipped and wears a collar with an ID plate so I have no worries that we couldn't get him returned, but my fear is the traffic.  Before I put up the fence, he was always on a tie-out, which I don't really like but he was well trained on the tie out (he waited to be snapped on/off, he knew the boundary so he wasn't getting his neck snapped).

I hope your baby comes back soon!  In the future I would consider securing her and arranging play dates with the lab.  We take our dogs and meet other dogs at a baseball field we have permission to use, so they can all play but can't escape.

I hope your girl returns, I would be sick with worry. Keep out there looking for her. Call the local police, let them know to contact you if anyone reports seeing her. Glad she's chipped, hope it helps. Call local vets, leave food out, leave gaits open, keep looking, don't stop looking. Good luck. jackie harris

Wait....you "let her out"? so she could run down the street?
Well...now you know what happens. I hope she comes back and you don't do that any more.

I hope you get her back in the morning.  I know how this feels.

BTW-- There IS a GPS system for dogs. It is a collar and you can track them via computer or even some cell phones.  Cabelas, among others, sells it.  I cannot remember the name.  But, call Cabelas and order one. It is about $200, but well worth it to avoid the stress and pain of a missing dog.

If you live in Washington State, the Cabelas in Lacey has them in stock.   I will try to find the exact name--you can probably order one on-line.

Good Luck
