If the BC worked in conjunction with the League and brought out the Mat Mag quarterly but at a mid way time between the Leagues, we would all be getting a Mag some 6 weekly, - and I am sure that most people are GSDL members, so will only be missing two weeks between magazines if they take both. Flip, does that make sense, I know what I mean.

My little Grandson sold back copies at a show last year - copies that were sitting as dead money in the BC purse, and he raised a few quid - perhaps this is a good idea for the hundreds of back copies that didnt sell, 1/2 price is better than nothing if we could organise a point of getting them to shows and back, as we cant expect Sheila to attend shows just to sell back copies.
Also, perhaps we should ask Sheila if we can have them for our puppy packs, with a subscription form inside. I think puppy buyers would love the thought of a glossy mag given in puppy packs, and would be enthusiastic at that point too... This is where we need to get more health and information related articles in there, to draw in new customers - and perhaps we didnt payh for them, but worked at generating a subscription from our puppy buyers....
Also, a long shot, drop a few in at vets that we know are specific to GSD`s i.e. ones that breeders use and let Sheila know of, that are visited for BVA hips and Elbows a lot becvause they know their stuff.

I have been voting for years to increase the mag to the price it cost to produce it, yes produce it, not to put it into profit just to break even. For some reason certain people seem to think non of you lot will be prepared to pay the price increase but as I believed if that was so then we either need to stop producing it or lower the cost by giving you a cheaper version (non glossy for example), but no-one wanted to reduce the quality (and to be honest neither did I) but you cant have it both ways and continue indefinitely , hence the inevitable demise of the mag was only a matter of time.
Then we have the personality issues that Mo (penny) addressed earlier. Over the years 'we' the panel have requested that ALL the panel should be consulted before ANY controversial issues are printed in the Mag, banging ones head against a brick wall comes to mind here (as does many issues relating to BC matters) because no matter how good it may be in some ways, in others it remains fraught with problems. Take the last two months for example the Non Signee clubs have been attacked in LTT in both issues, so it begs the question "Who edits the editor?". Ironically it was these very same clubs that were the ONLY ONES (other than the Clubs represented by the BC Sec and Chairman) that bothered to turn up at the LAST BC meting and given you could argue that as BC Officers the other two had a duty to be in attendance regardless, the 7 non signee clubs presence was the only thing giving the BC any credence to its continued existence.
When all said and done, it was the KC themselves who choose to bypass the BC and go directly to the Clubs a trend that so far looks likely to continue, so it is the KC who have rendered attending BC meetings a waste of time and money for most clubs and considering that over the years most of what the majority of Clubs have voted for is so often ignored once the meeting is over, who can blame them for deciding they would rather spend their Saturdays following more useful pursuits.
That for what its worth is how it is, an opinion of which I know many share albeit some don't like to admit it, then there's the minority who choose to hide their head in the sand and ignore it, but the truth is ONLY a handful will choose to deny it. AT the end of the day truth will out, it just takes some truths longer than others to surface.
With deepest sympathy for the death of a BC

The only magazine I've ever come across on the breed was the one I picked up at last year's Sieger Show.
It was an "Our Dogs" special issue "Sieger 2008",a great read with a lot of interesting articles and comments from breeders.
If the B.C. magazine is anything like as good then I would take out a subscription.

I so looked forward to getting my BC magazine every month, but perhaps the death knell has been sounding for some time.
I know a few people (I was one of them) who stopped getting the mag because of the content; sick of seeing our own breed slated (working scene) in our own mag!
I/we have been "told off" for voicing our opinions on this very forum... but look at what's written in the mag! I believe it's wrong to "award" oneself a platform and use it so! I would not, therefore, have been re-newing my subscription... though I am sorry that it has come to this. Maybe it's too late to have some impartiality in the editing and some forward thinking in the marketing? I don't know.... but there have been a few very good ideas put forward on this thread.
