@vomMarischal,  as you found out, not all TD's are created equal. Problem is some trainers have had success with one method that only works with one particuilar type of dog.  Then when they try this method on another type of dog and it does not work, they say your dog is crap. My mentor taught us that you have to be like Felix the Cat and his magic bag. Overtime the more trainers you observe, the more seminars you attend the more clubs you visit, the more tricks you can put in your bag.

I love it when I hear people say, "my trainer does not want us to go to this seminar or that seminar".  Most of the time its so you don't find out what type of fraud they are. I could understand someone saying don't work your dog at this seminar or that seminar.  But to tell someone not to observe or audit a seminar,  I don't get it.  Education is key. Why someone would not want to learn something new each and everyday? I don't get it.

A whole year on a new technique or method.  Oh hell no. You have to give each method a reasonable amount of time to kick in.  But after a few months of consistant attendance and working the technique and no change. Next idea.   You are aware of the definition of insanity?  Doing the samething over and over and expecting a different out come, lol. I'm glad you finally said, "Enough"!

Well said, Kyle! Dogs are definitely NOT 'one size fits all'!  And the day I stop learning will be the day I'm dead....

Kyle touched on my very favoritest aspect of most trainers- the "your dog is crap because I only know how to train one way and it doesn't work on your dog" approach.

Of COURSE no one here thinks that way, Jenni...[cough, cough]

Kyle, MY TD went to seminars and stood out in the parking lot the whole time snickering at presenters' ideas with one or two buddies. What a jackass. However, I'm apparently all kinds of insane (and ashamed) to put up with it for as long as I did. D'OH!  Not blaming anybody but my own dumb self.

Vom Marishal,
About 10 years ago I was in the same kinda of Sch club in which the TD didn't want the club members going to seminars and was only effective with one kind of dog. It didn't bother me a lot because I went to seminars anyway, and I also had been around the block longer than the TD so I didn't rely on him for progress/knowledge. Nonetheless, there were many people in the club syarting out that were greatly disserviced by this occurrence.
