You'd have to be following the absurdity on the general topic board to get the reference Jenni.

I got it, SP. I looked at the other train wreck.

Sable is sable. Some are darker than others. Simple. Aria is a very dark sable w/reddish undercoat, if you really want to go nuts with it. I like to look at their pink papers for official word- and it looks like SABLE IS SABLE. The only remarks are sometimes you will see comments pertaining to wolf gray and how dark their features are. I find that the people arguing over color description typically are too concerned with the color and not concerned enough about the DOG. Just an observation.

A wolf gray sable I like is Miya vom Linmarc.

To the gene gurus,
Does the graying gene in dun horses have a complimentary gene in the GSD?

I don't believe so, but the "dun factor" is a separate gene from the gray, sort of like the arm bars and toe penciling we see on sables and bicolors, and affects other horse colorations, such as my favorite, "buckskin dun".

BTW, I wasn't joking about the "comb tooth" sable, that's a very distinct feature on that dog, appearing kind of like a thumbprint of black sable stripes on his coat, and nothing to do with a brush or comb being used. My dogs are lucky if I brush them once or twice a year, only if they're shedding terribly.
