I wonder if copies of her various posts here would be useful in prosecuting her for the neglect of both her mother and the dogs?  Although she is clearly mentally ill, she is also clearly an intelligent individual who is capable of not only learning, but retaining what she's learned, and that is well-demonstrated in her postings regarding GSD history...so could any argument that she couldn't possibly know that what she was doing was wrong then be nullified by her own words?  (DD? Nia?)

Likewise, her posts wherein she defends her past actions and denies that the circumstances were as represented by the authorities also speak to an awareness of what said authorities consider to be unacceptable, regardless of whether she thinks it's perfectly OK or not...therefore, if her defense argues that she isn't capable of providing an acceptable level of care because she can't recognize it, wouldn't her own words serve to demonstrate otherwise? 

It's often the case wherein someone this abusive to both animals and people was themselves abused in their childhood (but not always)...and so perhaps this is a learned behavior for Janice Bartmess. Perhaps she even learned it from the mother she now neglects and abuses--even should that prove to be the case, though, it does not excuse her actions, but only reinforces that she is NEVER going to change, and should not be permitted to care for any living being save her own miserable self, and the wretch she's married to (since at the very least, he's stood by and allowed this to occur, even if he did nothing else). 

Has anyone been able to find out if the dogs that were seized are going to be held at the shelter, or if they'll permit one or more rescue groups to set up foster care for them? 

VM, heaven knows you and I have been at loggerheads at times, but in this I not only applaud you, I bow to you for your efforts to intercede on behalf of those who could not do for themselves.

You make an excellent point.    Postings on message boards and Facebook have been used in legal and quasi-legal proceedings many times.   IOWs, just as with the Barthness -defenders, your words on the internet can come back and bite you in the butt. 


FWIW:
I recently urged all of my club members and FB friends to delete all photos of their dogs doing bitework for precisely that reason.  One FB member actually had such photos used against him in court.  While those of us involved in working breeds and /or dogsports like to see those photos and videos of our training and trials, those who neither understand nor appreciate working abilities , temperament, drive and character in our various breeds are horrified.  They use those same visuals to substantiate their claims of viciousness.   Why do you think my avatar is of a strong, powerful male with over-the-top drives calmly sitting with his Sch III medallion?


(Now that I have said this, watch and see whether one of the more notorious and nefarious among us  doesn't slap photos of my dog doing bitework-taken without permission-all over the internet)
