Hank, please, please make paragraphs. Have mercy on my old eyes.

Quote: Several people have commented about how much more effective prey monsters are for police work and more desireable than even dogs with balanced drives. dogs that will bite all day etc. I've seen alot of k9s work around the country and see this trend to be correct as stated by a few.

Again, there seems to be some sort of problem with a dog that is not afraid of threat. Why is that ? I have a dog that is like this, and he is not some sort of maniac in the house, likes people and what not.

In WW2 the Marines had to kill off a bunch of their dogs as the bombing was too much, and they went all wonky. Who knows what goes on in the military to make the dogs batty like that, I kind of doubt there is the kind of bombing like there was during the Japanese campaign.

I don't think that a dog that does not go into defense is a lessor dog. Maybe they break, but I do not see people talking about their "prey monster" running amok out of it's mind.

In the 60's, they trained primarily in defense. Hell, they were doing that until the 80's for the most part. Crowd control dogs were allowed to bite anyone close enough, with no control. Listen to what the police are saying, or pay the price.

Interesting theory on why the GSD went downhill. I enjoyed reading that point of view.

Quote : "8 month old pup, never seen the suit and from untitled dogs but well bred and proven dogs. these dogs are police dogs and this one is currently working in canada. just shows a good dog will bite anything if called on to do so. he is also being handled by a complete stranger. i am shooting the video."

Cool, just about any dog can be agitated a few feet away and go bite the suite.  What is your point?

by sable59 on 21 May 2011 - 17:05

if you missed the point,duh!!
and to say any dog will do it is B.S.. ALSO  THE PUP IS 8 MONTHS AND NOT YET A DOG.MAN, YOU NEED A REALITY CHECK!! SAME PUP

Hank,

Totally agree. Only thing I want to add is some "geographical" areas are more crime ridden then others and due to their "STATS" or levels of Part I or Part II Crimes, (how crimes are determined/categorized by DOJ) that department/agency would be IMO better able to put a clamp on the crime with a more civil K9. Hard for me to call them "Prey Monsters". I see them as a K9 that loves their job!

Jeff
That is correct the SV is not the all an end all. Not for you Guys in the USA it is not, But for us over here it is, It is what we abide by what we grade our dogs on by the rules set down by this body.
But many of you seem to bring up how incompetent it is in a lot of cases over threads in the past and say how much it can be improved.
Those who think so need to look at there own doors and get there own organizations put right because again the USA system is up the creek without a paddle according to many of your countrymen
No the SV is not perfect, nothing is perfect, this Forum is not perfect, but is run the best way it can be adding improvements along the way in the hope of making it perfect.
You talk about Mondio, yes that is your interest, But look at it this way My new Pup which comes end of June beginning of July, I will be training it in the SchH Sport
It will in due time get its SchH1 AD, and then be Korclassed, Joints obligatory with me regardless of whether it works or sits on the couch. Then it will hopefully go onto SchH3 etc,
Now that is my sport with dogs, I am not interested in Mondio, or any other Sport, Now if we take what this Dog works like and i do not mean just passing scores to get the Grades and i hope it will then be good enough to go onto Selection trials, however we are talking 3 years ahead now, Lets hope i am still here.
What i am saying is this, The Dog has an Impeccable pedigree of the highest order, it has done its work to a high standard, Yet many on here who do not believe in Breed Surveys count for anything and indeed the Titles say,
My untitled Dog My NON breed surved Dog has just as much right to be bred from as your dog who has worked and got its breed survey has,
Can any one tell me how the dog with nothing in its portfolio has the right to breed Puppies in the HOPE of BETTERING THE BREED, That to me is bullshit, and in all honesty the ones who do nothing with there dogs before breeding from them in most cases do not even get them Joint Tested officially, there are a few on here wou think that way.
It is these people i am against being breeders, Nothing to do with Dogs doing another Job for the Police , Narcotics etc they in a lot of cases can be breed from i have never said otherwise it is the Bloody idle dog owners who just want to shove there females with a male is what i am against they are not fit people to own these dogs
