Scores in the ScH sport are everything because without them you lose, However that is not the reason i picked this breeding, I always look for a Proponent line of dogs which Produce, and the Line of Orry from him and his parents are just that, and what i mean by that is not just a line of Dogs to win all before them in the Sport, it is the Intelligence and the WILL to work which comes from that line and it does not mean only in the ScH sport.
I think many of the Progeny of Orry and Tom have gone to work at other things beside the Sport
In all types of breeding you look for the Prepotent Sire and Dam, It is from these that you can breed a galaxy of winners and Champions even if some of the dogs go into other areas of work they have the inherited brains to be able to work and be good at what they are put at,
Of course not all and every litter is such but if you breed from the very best then you are in with a chance albeit perhaps a small chance but better that than breed from a complete unknown with ancestors that have done little or nothing of note.
I will know within a very short time if Hektor will make the grade and uphold his heritage that is enough for me at this stage, As for a Video i do not havesuch a device to take a video.
I have a Camera of sorts, My Nikon D40 X was stolen when i was at the WUSV championships last year i cannot afford another one as pricey as that, plus 1500 dollars worth of  two lenses went the same time, Took me two years to save for that lot i would have loved to meet the one who took it he would be running round without his hands now

Jeff i am an ordinary Bloke, i do not understand how things work with finance, all i know is that my Pension gets lower every month the lowest Belgian Pensioner gets twice as much a month to live on from the Belgian government as i do.
However we must make the best of it one thing is certain its no good moaning, we make our Bed so we must Lie in it, meaning we make the best of what we have got and be happy with it

A few years ago i had a Champion Racer Male, However at the time i did not have the Quality of Female to mate him to
So having no money to purchase any top producer females i scoured the Country UK, to find out who had this class of Hen Bird who would breed and produce Top Classic and National performers with different males. After about 12 months of looking and asking i found 3 such hens and the agreement was that the Owners of these hens trust me and we would split the young 50/50. after some talk two Guys sent there producer hens to me for the seasons breeding.
I bred from both hens with my Male in turn and i kept for myself the best daughters which went back to the father in looks and handling, the Others in sent to the fanciers and at the end of the season i returned the hens with the last young bird
So the next year i mated MY top Male back in turn to his daughters, Now some will say you are inbreeding, Well up to a point but in fact i was line breeding, Why, the Male and the two females were unrelated to each other in the first place, Now what did i do now well the Young birds were tested very hard, and the males were really tested at a young age, So in effect i had half Sisters that i was pairing back to the Sire
Now to cut a long story short you can carry on like this for years and you need to test and select very strongly, After three generations you bring in another Producer unrelated Hen to pair to the original Male and you go on from there, When the Old male dies his Best Racing Son takes his place and you again bring in Top Producer hens to boost the Blood so you can carry on this way What is the end result
You are then owning a Line Bred Family of pigeons of which there is only ONE male bird at the start so this is line bred family on the Paternal side, What i did then was to make Two families

why I think it's dangerous that people breeds by how high points that a dog has been given in a competition is to

do they look after the dog has natural drives? or using only dog in the breed because it has done well in the shepherd WUSV?

and can the dog breeders recognize in the competitions which dogs  have built drive by training into the dog ,or is this genetic and natural drive in the dog?

Steve1...that is a very interesting story about the pigeons. Your Breeding Model implies that the male of the breeding pair is the most important, as that is what you happened to own at the time. Should you have owned a Super Champion Hen would you have linebred on her in a similar fashion with different top champion males...or would you have picked a top male out of those breedings and started a Line Bred Family on him? Just curious :)

No' I place great emphasis on the Female of any Species as i have said before, But at the time i was doing this i raced a System devised by me Based on the WIDOWHOOD System where Males only were raced but Celibate, they saw the Hens on return from races only but sometimes a minute or two before basketing but no contact. But i developed a system within the Widowhood System which was unheard of in those days late 1970' to the late 80's
It was called LOCK in THE BOX Widowhood. Meaning that the Males were locked in there nest box during the daytime. They went out to loft fly in the morning when they came into the loft they went in there nest box and were locked in Fed in a pot amount regulated and water left all day
The Loft had  Curtains which were drawn across to cut out some light but you could read a paper, When i came home from work i went straight to the loft and opened the Nest Boxes and the cocks were left 5 minutes they fought each other on the floor for a short time then i opened the loft doors for them to take free flight for an hour or so. When they came back in at my call they were fed in a tray on the floor all together and a water drinker on the loft floor Half the nest box was closed they roosted in the open half and had the loft to do as they wished, Next morning out for a fly in they come locked in the boxes fed and watered Curtains drawn
What this did was they rested well during the daytime conserving there energy The way i fed them kept them in condition for months, They became a household name in the UK in fact they made our name Famous in the UK Pigeon fancy , The Opposition could not get near them but also it was the feeding system i made up and my now famous Vegetable juice now used for 40 years, Had i been a business man i would be rich now but i am but an ordinary person who wanted to do well not thinking of making money, Now it is to late i am a wiser man for it
Going back to the Female Line Maternal Line the problem is with Line breeding to the Female is that the Daughters are 100% Sex Linked to the Sire the Sons take 50/50. So it is a harder way of breeding if you lose track the Males will become Henny looking and the Females a little smaller, Me i chose the easier option if there is one in any form of breeding

I have just been told that the Pups will be Chipped this coming Friday and i will go to Germany to pick Hektor up the following Tuesday

Steve, yes, of course scores matter if you want to win, but I was thinking breeding and not competition. A dog doesn´t have to be of unknown ancestors just because all dogs in the pedigree haven´t competed on high level, it´s still possible to see how the dog behave himself in training or in service for those breeders who want´s to use a certain dog. How many breeders and more so puppybuyers have personal knowledge about all dogs in a pedigree for several generations anyway, and let´s not forget the littermates to the dogs you see in a pedigree.

Myret, I think many choose the wellknown dog instead of his brother because it´s easier to sell the pups, even if the brother may be the stronger dog but less famous. I also wonder what people mean when they say "this dog has 100% natural drives" how can you know that if you don´t know the training put on the dog, but I assume a dog that is really impressive probably have more of natural qualities than the dog who looks more boring in the work.

Jennie

I agree, how do the breeders know the dog they use for breeding is a dog of natural genetic instincts or just someone who has trained him well??

they would  only  know if one sees the dog on several occasions, both when the dog is free, and when it is used for training, generally requires that you look at the dog several times and not just judge it only

Take Pup Hektors mother she is as said a ScH 111 dog korclasse1, and she is full sister to the 2010 WUSV Champion not the same nest a very good dog in her own right. I think a lot will be heard of her breeding capabilities in years to come.
And the Father of Hektor 'Ares' again ScH111 Korclasse1 a very good dog fearless and  nerves like a rock but a calm individual. I think it a really good mating and of course both sides go to Tom and Orry for me just what the Doctor ordered,
In this case it is the Breeding and Bloodlines that i am going for seeing as Orry is my all time favourite dog both as a Competitor and as a Producer of very good Dogs both at work and on the breeding side of the modern times this is what i am trying to say, A Dog which is good at his work but has those elusive qualities to pass on his Genes to great effect, Very few have those qualities in any Species
