I got the results back this morning for my friends nine year old female I talked about further up the page that is exhibiting major signs of DM and as I thought, her results came back with two genes for DM, AT RISK. Sad part is that this dog comes from the breeder I talked about that is claiming her lines are DM free because they are German lines! How's that for proof?

Well and both my DM boys parents were from Germany and used at stud and bred in Germany; so NO people that does not work, they need to start testing just as we are here in the US; as well as other countries, everyone needs to test. DM does not know where Germany lies nor does it have any boundaries. So don't let that stop you from testing. Best of luck to everyone Nan

There is no such thing as some lines being clear...
As the first breeder to start testing in 08 when the test became available, i know a bit
about it from the many feed backs I get continiously. Its a very straight forward disease,
no recessive genes involved as in HD or ED, so this can be bred out quickly.
http://animalgenetics.us is the best fastest (48 hrs from receipt of the DNA sample)
and least expensive resource ($45) and
their results ARE recognized by the OFA for entry into the database.

When buyers start asking, then the big breeders will have to start testing so keep
passing on the word!
a PS note: When i was interested in purchasing my male "Cole vd Wienerau" i had him held back
and paid for additional boarding in Germany to make sure he'd come back NORMAL
only. Yes he came back normal, so he's here. There is no way I'd risk it ever again.
(now i'm up in arms about their over vaccination protocols though...)
So there are NO excuses for any breeder or importer to not avoid this.

Juat wanted to let you know I personally talked to OFA and the only place the recognize results from (becides themself) is the University of Missouri. The do NOT recognize the DM results from Animal Genetics.
