I am starting a list for my own knowledge (and if others ask me about it) as to what stud dogs are tested for DM.  I am interested in not just n/n dogs, but any stud dog that has been tested and the results.

Since this is for my own knowledge/use, I am only interested in working titled males from European working or show lines.  But if others want to post their dogs here for others to see, thats ok too :)

Anyone own or know of any nice titled males who have been tested for DM?

I am so glad you are doing your homework. I know there are quite a few here that test for DM. Every breeder should be testing for DM now. The test is readily available, easy to use and it is not expensive. THe thought that a breeder would intentionally allow this disease to possibly occur in one of their offspring is unforgivable. By NOT testing they have no idea as to what may happen. They are gambling with the lives of their pups. There is no excuse, except for greed. No one can convince me differently. Anyone who is on this board knows better too. Blitzen puts up regular reminders to breeders to encourage them to test.

My dog has DM and it is heartbreaking to watch. She is a rescue so I had no way of knowing. It is a horrible disease.  I am just glad that I have her and am able to give her the care she deserves.

Again, good for you for making sure you get a pup that has DM tested parents. I hope you find your ideal pup! Good luck!

I lost my SL GSD to DM.  She also had AF too for the last 5 years of her life.  These are horrific conditions and I agree that every stud dog being used should be tested.  I wouldn't stop there I would test all breeding stock.  To see your beloved dog pulling her legs behind her like they don't belong is heartbreaking.  To watch the tissues around her anus melt, heartbreaking.  I am only a pet owner but heads need to be pulled out the sand.  We owe it to this fantastic breed.  I am sorry to hear your dog suggers from DM.

My boy is dm-clear. He's not yet titled, we're working toward that. ( SAR and tracking). He comes from lewis Von malatesa and aly vom vordersteinwald. Wasn't sure if you wanted ny dogs... So I figured I'd add my boy.

Zobelhund - what is your male's name?

My purpose for looking is to keep a stud list to look to in the future when I start considering future breedings.  So yes if your boy is working towards titles/SAR cert, I am interested to keep an eye on him in the future :)  And of course if anyone I speak with is ever looking for a stud dog, I will share the info!

Thanks everyone.

Shepherdhope, I just wanted to say the reason I am looking for stud dogs is for future breeding purposes.  I have tested my current breeding female (she is clear btw) and will test all my future dogs as well.  But not all stud dogs are tested, so it is nice to know which ones are available who are tested.

It does seem like more and more people are testing their stud dogs... I have seen some mentioned at various times but when I started thinking about it I couldnt remember which dogs were... which is why I got the idea to just start a list and will continue to add the males to the list as I come across more.

I know KIm at JustK9s has tested her dogs. Her DDR male Rookie is DM CLEAR. She does not do SchH, but does AKC OB.
