Blitzen, Yes, I have taken my girl to 2 AKC shows, but then had to concentrate on Sch titles. We will probably do some more in the future. The AKC shows are super fast!! Almost done before you have time to think! lol I have shown in SV shows for 7 + years now. Don't know how she will continue to do but the entry fees are less than half of what SV shows are, and there are a ton of shows around, so not nearly as much time and $ investments. Never really cared much about AKC shows, but when you have a really nice dog it just makes you curious as to how they would do.

I am amazed at all the lengthy disertations...I thought too, Hundmutter, that Myzet ask what does a straight back gsd and a roach back look like>? I ask Rito which one he was...Showline or Workingline??he turned to me and said... My sire was a Traveling Man...lol Of course, he watched tv today and the Twin sons of Ricky Nelson are gonna be in Longview , tomorrow night singing Traveling Man.... Rito is half & half = SteffenHaus/Enclavehof BuseckerSchloss/Wierthurchen

Debby, I thought one of your pics looked like an AKC win. I think that dog would do well at AKC shows. Yes, the AKC shows do run on schedule, no waiting around for the judge or the dogs. If you snooze, you lose LOL.

Sired by a Traveling Man.....love it, YR. Was he born in the backseat of a greyhound bus rollin down highway 41?  Oops, that was a Ramblin Man, wasn't it?

"'...the egregious roach in the GSL GSDs.'

Does the dog pictured in this thread have a straight back:

What affect would higher withers have on the dog's appearance?"

Crickets?  All working line dogs have straight backs; right?

How about this dog...banana back?

by Blitzen on 30 March 2012 - 02:03

I don't think so, Keith.

It has to be; that's a Vegas grandson and we now know what the dog is supposed to look like from the people who neither trial nor show their dogs because they understand the standard better than the judges who do what the real standard is; right?

Linda Shaw is a member of the Durham schutzhund club, so she does know how to work a dog.

And for those of you too lazy to click on the link I posted back on page 1, to answer the OP's question:

correct topline:

roached topline:

If you want to know the REAL reason this all came about, please click on the link to Fred Lanting's site that Rik posted. Two brothers did indeed have the power to change the way the GSD looks, and which dogs win the trophies in the show ring. There is NO OTHER REASON FOR IT. If you ask Fred, who is an authority on the GSD and on orthopedic problems, he will tell you it does NOT make the back stronger.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I have a kennel to look after...

I think where we really differ is in degree. Not saying people shouldn't dislike / even be
"appalled" by / any spine which is capable of being flexed by stance into an extreme ...
even when that is a largely ILLUSORY  effect  (I have seen pink elephants too but they
disappeared when the booze ran out).  Its just this 'holier than thou' attitude that ticks
me off.
Because we don't know that this is a SERIOUS PROBLEM in any case - you don't answer
the point I made about lack of evidential linkage to disease.  I take Ibrahim's point
about the opposite effect - weak saggy backs might indeed in some cases be "life threat-
ening" but, look, the UK fancy went through 3 decades when that abomination was in the ascendency yet it didn't 'kill off' the breed.

keep showing up in this dumb zigzag format ?
