Ibrahim, if ALL WLs had incorrect structure, I would not now own a gsd. As I said before, there are some decent SL dogs but a much smaller percentage than incorrect. Stack or no stack, the typical structure is not to breed standard. You are to be commended for trying to sort through the hype.

Looks like we SL and WL fans can all agree on this, which is a good thing!

My WL has a slight roach, I'll see if I can find a pic.

She may not count as she  does have some showline on the mothers side, Cello von der Romerau and Joker (who is a WL) but looks to have a bit of a roach? no? Or is it his stack.  He is not a  very good looking dog actually
Here is her pedigree:

Trixx, thank you for posting that poor thing. That is a deformed dog that probably has a sweet temperament and for no fault of his own is sentenced to a life trapped in a deformed body!! All in the name of the f- g show ring!!!! When will the deliberate breeding of such cruel deformity stop?

To Carole Lister
imo its really no good referring these people to the breed literature, they just want
to believe what they want to believe.  Utter nonsense about "what must the internal
organs of that one with the extreme hinge look like ?" betray basic ignorance about
biology.  Only person on this thread talking any sense at all is Ibrahim, and even (HE?)
makes the error of indulging the "I don't like that, so it must be wrong/cruel" people
by agreeing a bit too enthusiastically over dogs that clearly have hinges or overbuilt
toplines.  Very few people seem to understand the true definition of 'roach' - as in
sighthounds etc - and what the structure of the parts of the back really amounts to
- which if they did bother to read up on it they might understand ...  but I don't believe
they will bother.

Hiya to Linda Swift, hope u keeping well hun.Interesting thread to read n no animosity so far.Trix i have to agree with your views on the 2 animals u have posted photos of.These 2 gsds are IMHO not correct in the topline n are very ugly to the eye.Sunsilver i can only view the feet of the one u have posted so unable to comment. My view of a roach back gsd seems to differ from most on this thread.I,ve been in gsds since 1986 n the showring since 87.I show n breed(tho.not for 9 yrs.)gsds of mainly german showlines n a roach back to me is one where the backline is obviously much higher than a NORMAL wither.Anything here in the UK that has a slightly sloping topline(as per the standard)is classed as ROACHED ,when it most certainly isnt. Most in this country have gsds that fit the standard as near dam it,only a small minority with alsatians which have flat backs n no slope looking like tables with a leg in each corner n yes a small minority on the german side with backlines that slope severly, which I DO NOT LIKE but to me that is due to shorter props.n overangulated rear quarters.Linda Shaws tracings n words describes it perfectly.I also noted that most photos posted are of gsds standing 4 square,so the back will be straight. My girlie, now aged 9 yrs.,looks straight standing 4 square but if she stands on her own in show stance when something catches her eye,the back is straight but slopes ever so slightly from withers to croup w/o any interruption. Now when she stacked by a handler at shows even she can be made to look hunched up,depends on how good the handler makes her look.Linda Shaw has made some of the same observations /explanations as i try to make to these ppl.who keep on harping that all german showlines are ROACHED,when they dont really understand wot it means.I can honestly say that I HAVE NEVER SEEN ANY GSL ,here in UK,look like the 2 animals Trix put photos of.Carole Spelman Rheinmeister gsds.
