GSD 7 weeks "pregnant" and not showing. - Page 2

sometimes active pregnancies just end without anybody knowing it -- if there were only 1/2 pups to begin with and she re-absorbs them - then she may continue to act pregnant but is no longer.

I always x-ray a few days prior to the first possible whelp date to know what I'm in for. 
Hopefully she's hiding 2-3 pups - but a quick pic will tell all (maybe next week?)

I am the can't wait to know for sure ~~ kind of person and do ultrasound at 4 - 5 weeks.

Nothing worse than all of that preparation for no result, better to know if puppies are to be expected.

I have a female booked in for this Friday for ultrasound she will be 29 days.

I also need to organize time off work

Is it normal though that at this time, she's the pickiest dog on earth?
Lately she doesn't wanna eat her Go Natural Chicken (at 570 Calories per cup, it helps me give her what she needs without having to really eat so much).

She didn't eat at all last Sunday in fact, which got me panicky. She's been eating better though since I guess she realized this is all she'll get so no point being picky.

Is it okay to add sunflower oil or canola oil just to boost up the Calories at this stage of gestation?

At this stage an xray will show if she is pg and you can get a decent idea of the number of puppies present. An ultrasound will show that too, but the vet I use charges a lot more for one than she does an xray.

My concern with this dog is that if she's not pg and not eating she may have pyo, so I would have her examined by a vet ASAP.

Thanks for the input. She's currently eating but won't consume more than her pre-breeding ration which is 3 cups of GO! Natural Chicken, Fruit and Vegetable--exactly 1710 Calories.

She just had a picky episode a few days ago wherein she didn't eat for a day and a half. She was active and perky the whole time though, and begged for her liver treats and peanut butter. So I'm assuming it's not a loss of appetite, more of a picky eating episode.

You will need to get an X Ray sometime in week 8 anyway.. to know the number of puppies and if she is pregnant. 

If she has only 1 puppy.. or 2.. you will probably have to have a C Section.

i also had a female so bad she would not eat much at all, it was her first  litter so some will be that way, they are all so different. she was fine the 2nd time though. i would say 3 cups is better than nothing , yes its fine to add a little extra to get her to want to eat.  Gravy is a good one to try.i too have a female now , not sure if she is preganat,mine is 6 weeks on wed. she is slowing down and will take all day just to eat the normal amount , hope she starts to pick up but not all do like your girl. i think mine has a very small litter and really dont think she should have many with an outside tie. with a small litter she may not show at all. if she is 8 weeks you wont have long to wait. even with a small litter you should be able to pick up one moving by now, lay her down on one side and put your hands wide on  her , just under the ribs, this is how i do my count and i have been right most of the time. once i was off by one puppy. i dont like to stress out my girl , by taking  her to the vet if i dont have too. i also brought a Doppler to pick up heart beats at 40 days and it does work.just have to make sure you use the right gel.

Did you do progesterone tests?

Thanks for the tip. I'll try to feel for puppies at 8 weeks to be more certain. And yes I agree that I try to minimize stress, that's why during vet appointments, my vet comes to my house instead of me visiting. Though problem is a scan is to big to bring in a car haha.

We did vaginal swabs for cytology and planned days based on cornification of cells to estimate probable LH Surge date. Then mated that day, 2 days later, and another 2 days later so we cover all bases in terms of the release and eventual maturation of oocytes.

IMO, there is no practical alternative to progestorone tests in ovulation timing.

Progestorone tests are generally necessary and sufficient for ovulation timing unless you also have the stud.

LH tests have to be done very often because LH surge is a pulse.

If you have a small litter this time, next time be sure to do P-tests.
