RLHAR   Very good post.

Oops. Sorry for any offense. I in no way ment to take lightly the hard work everyone puts into a dog sport. As for my phrase of "tricks" I did not mean it negatively. Other than using the word trick, I am not sure how to describe my exact meaning. So I will drop that and let it go. -------- I understand what my pup did is not unique; so far all of my GSDs have done something similar and it amazes me each time. I was just looking to see if there was a specific sport that that took what the dogs (yes, my adult GSDs do the same) did naturally on this to another level. -------- sorry again; no offense was intended.

Are you real?

Yeah, I know I need to get out to these events and clubs. Downside is where I live, the closes will be Dallas, which is 125 miles one way. I am just taking ideas and rolling them around. Trust me, I will do the hands on before I jump.

Chaz, I do not understand.

"Trust me, I will do the hands on before I jump." fawndallas Do you really want to make that statement? You have bred your dogs and you don't even know which end to feed. Get out and learn the breed. And before you make ridiculous statements, get off your ass and go actually learn what sports have to offer.

Pardon? I know exactly what I bred and where to go from there, if I wanted to limit my knowledge. I have spoken to a few people off line and they have expanded my knowledge enough for me to look outside the box. -------

Ok, tiger. Who did you talk to off line, the manager of the local pet store at the mall? Who are these masked men? Did you and Kemmer decide to alter the breed?

Chaz is right. Hard, direct, blunt, and right.

Before @ssuming all these activities are nothing
more than 'trick' training, you should get out and
put a CD or BH on a dog. I mean come on,you were
just raving about a prong collar being a miracle in
another thread. You seriously need a prong collar
on a baby puppy to get him to heel? And you have
actually given 'advice' to others on this forum?
Come on, Chaz is right, you have come on here for
the simplest and most basic question of dog keeping.

Go find a GOOD trainer and suck up as much of their
time as they will let you! Sit back, steal with your eyes,
ask questions when it is an appropriate time, and PAY
attention to what is told to you. And most important,
shut the hell up and listen 3 times harder than you normally
would
. If you can find a trainer that will allow you to watch
and learn, you better also offer to scoop dog shit etc as a
small token of appreciation.

You have a LONG way to go before you can sit back and
decide that any arena is simply 'not challenging' enough
to you and your dogs.

IMO BH training is a good place to start with a green dog (and a green handler). The exercises are similar to the CD, you tell the dogs to fuss more often, there is no long sit and down next to other dogs that may or may not stay.  All the BH's I have seen are held out of doors, not inside small noisy buildings on mats. The best part is the dog only needs to pass one time. You can go to the net and print out the pattern, I don't know that link, someone else here will, so you can practice it on your own. You must know the pattern since the judge does not tell you what to do as in AKC OB.  If you can find an OB class nearby, I'm pretty sure the instructor wil be happy to walk you through the BH pattern. Dogs are allowed to wear prongs during the BH, no prong collars allowed on the grounds of any AKC show.

If you decide that AKC OB is for  you and your dog, you will need to go through a process to get him or her registered with AKC. Not sure if the SV requires that for a BH.
