VKGSDs

I'm with Rik, if this particular video is supposed to be evidence of show line people in generally breeding and exhibiting dogs like this then I disagree.  I'm a show line person (well and a working line person too, I own, train, title, and show both) and like I said I'd never take home a puppy like that (or I'd send it back).  I've seen a few like it and people always say stuff like "oh he'll outgrow that..." but I get the feeling it's just being said to be nice, since the person already bought the dog and is often so attached they aren't going to give it back to the breeder anyway so what's the point of saying it's really messed up.

Question - Was Emely really the dam of this dog? Emely was whelped March 2009 and the puppy shown (video taken August 2010) was at least 4 months, so in that case Emely whelped this puppy by the age of 13 months.

Question - Can or will a breeder really know the result of his/her breeding? Was/were there any littermate/s in this breeding?

IMO, Kennel Gim has a nice/fine facility. A huge well fenced compound. How I wish to have such kennel.

To answer the hyphotetical question " I wll be shock and Not Okay with it".

cheers,
JoFay

Keith, please re-read my first comment, second paragraph.  It really can't be that simple.

Its good to know that people on here think this is wrong;  that you-all would not buy a pup
like this, or would send it back etc.  But Abby is right - despite Kennel Gim's reputation, the
very fact that they made the video - and don't seem to be apologising for anything - indicates
we could have a real problem happening.  When I first started using the board, I got involved with
a conformation debate about one of these puppies who are described as 'hock walkers' which
turned out to be a dietary issue;  during that to&fro, someone mentioned that it was far from
unusual to see puppies in America looking like this, and I expressed my shock at the time, never
having had to consider it an issue before in all my time around dogs.

I'm still waiting to hear what some of the 'big' kennels think !  I agree with Rik that we're not very
likely to see this turn up in competitions;  but if its at home in peoples kennels, the breed community
needs to know.

Joyride - I am not sure about Emely. She was mentioned to me as having 4 matings since February 2011 (1 every season, they are listed on the website) so that may have been what put her in my mind as the dam, so I may have that wrong. They do not mention the dam on the video, only the sire. They have had some successes too, but obviously not with dogs that look like this, at least I hope not. No doubt this is what is encouraging breeders in the UK & Ireland to import dogs from this kennel. Hundmutter, you seem to understand with perfect clarity why I posted this. It isn't a case of attacking SL, or holding up another dog as a 'poster child' for horrible conformation. It's seeing what is going on and not just accepting it, or shaking your head and moving on. If pups like this end up in people's homes it gives a terrible impression of modern GSDs and either drives more people to the BYB who offer 'straight backed' old fashioned shepherds, or fuels more anti GSD/pedigree dog feeling. I am pleased that others have been dismayed at this pups conformation. I am relieved that no-one has tried to defend it. I don't think you will see any big kennels giving an opinion Linda.

This is already true in many aspects.  Look at the videos advertising show line stud dogs and their bitework!  I've seen some so bad I thought it has to be a joke, no one in their right mind would share that let alone think it's something that is *promoting* their dog.  Some breeders are clueless and it goes beyond just how the dog moves running back and forth in a kennel.

Let's think GSD, I am more than confident Abby was thinking GSD when she made that post, if I thought otherwise, part of me would have felt hurt.

I want to make an announcement, yesterday I was very happy, no no I was extremely happy, now I know I have at least one good real GSD. I love both the show and the work GSDs and own both, I wish the work had better conformation and I wish the show had better protection ability. Yesterday a dog trainer visited to see my dogs and I asked him to test Orwell's carriage, he asked me to tigh the dog to a post and I did giving him freedeom of movement of about 2 meters, the trainer agitated Orwell and the dog stood his ground and tried to attack the trainer, the trainer increased the pressure and the dog retaliated fiercely without any sort of backing down or cowardness, in the process Orwell cut the chain and jumped on the trainer just like videos I see here, but he made a real bite aiming at the trainer's neck who caught him from the cheeks and the bite was made on the trainer's shoulder, but we caught Orwell before damage was done. I know I have a real GSD, maybe if I had to choose I would choose the work, but I wish I will never be forced to choose between my dogs, I'm happy and proud.

Sorry Abby, maybe I shouldn't have posted this here

Don't bother to comment here, I made a new post

Ibrahim,  you are correct - I am talking GSD . Though this is a SL kennel, hence the title, and I believe SL generally has more influence on the breed, especially in Europe, than WL.

And you know I just LOVE Orwell !!!

by dantes on 18 September 2012 - 18:09

I didn't see any GSD in the video....

These dogs in the video do not look like any GSD I know about or have seen.  Ugly and deformed !
