Molly makes some good points, there is a huge difference
between a 'breeder' and a 'puppy producer' Wink Smile

Look for the breeders that work, test and prove their dogs.
The ones that leave their backyards and keyboards Thumbs Up
Look for the breeders that are working with generations
of dogs they bred, not just an import or two (or 10+) Teeth Smile

JBasler, I am the one you kept emailing with several different email addresses. We requested your phone number but you stated you would rather communicate via email. Then you emailed us with a different email address again and again and we finally had to put a stop to it.
Your email stated something like

Removed email as per our TOS. mrdarcy (Admin)

To make something clear to you. You should never breed for commercial purposes.  My mortgage does not get paid by my dogs. Yes, I do import, train and sell K-9's. Now that is not cheap and very time consuming. I am fortunate enough to be able to stay home all day with my dogs. My kennels are spotless and my dogs are trained daily. I also train and donate 5-6 dogs per year to low budget PD's.
I am sure some breeders make money from selling puppies but if you truly spend the money and time in selecting the proper dogs and not purchase a $500 dogs for breeding (like many people do) there is really no money to be made in raising puppies. Anyone that has ever been to my place was impressed and I am very proud of that.
Any more questions BASLER? Who are you anyway?

$1,000.00 per pup with a litter of just 5 is $5,000.00. I doubt breeders are putting $5,000.00 back into the dam and sire with each litter.

Do breeders even pay taxes on that $5,000.00  ? Or is is all under the table ?

I have a hard time believing breeders with multiple dams having litter after litter @ $1,000.00 per pup are not making money for ohh say mortgages, cars, household bills etc.

Just saying.

I know if I was to breed my dog and she had 5 pups and I sold them for $1,000.00 per pup I'd have an extra $5,000.00 to spend - but then again I work 3 jobs that pay all my bills.

Well, I guess you don't pay a stud fee, you don't feed a quality food to your pups (or none at all since it is all profit), you don't deworm, you don't vaccinate, you don't take care of the pups and properly socialize the pups, you didn't import or put countless hours in training in the sire/dam, you don't get health clearance on the sire/dam.
You are correct, the way you see it you just made $5,000.

BE2U,
Thanks, thats basic math. Yes, one has upkeep and expenses,
but please, if you want to tell me with a straight face you don't
turn a profit on an average litter, well, you are a bald faced liar Tongue Smile

And when one buys and sells dogs like cars, bringing in males
and females, breeding the males to everything they own, then
selling and repeating that same cycle time and time again with
the bitches too? well, come on nowThinking

No workingdogz, my point is that you don't breed thinking you will make a huge profit to pay your bills. I have met many people that said count on puppy sales to pay their bills etc. That is my point.

b hall
The only reason i used my yahoo mail is because the e mail on your website only uses G mail, and since i thought i was going to possibly continue with you i used my yahoo account so i would be able to send some pictures of my Dogs to you thats all. Sorry if i hurt your feelings. I didn't mean to provoke you with questions that made you demand my phone number. The only reason i would send you pictures of my dogs by the way is so you would know that i am a real person.
When you started using the harassment card i knew that it was time to move on. Thanks for everything and all you do with GSDs
MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR
                                                                                          Sincerely John Basler

John, no hard feelings. You just have to understand that your first email to me was pretty weird and I honestly would much rather talk to people on the phone than the constant email. Anyway, I wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year also.
GOD BLESS

No matter how much someone loves their dog or how much someone may disagree, dogs are live stock. A couple of the kennels mentioned so far are commerical kennels, operated for a profit and the livelihood of the owner. And breed very good dogs that they stand behind.

It's the quality put into the breeding that determines the outcome, Someone could breed a litter every 5 years  and still have the same motives as an out right puppy mill.

by destiny4u on 09 December 2012 - 17:12

J basler when a breeder gets tempermental pushy or aggressive it is time to move on.

Bhall you going to give me 10 thousand so i can visit all 10 nice  kennels from this forum that are placed all over the world far away from me? Don't forget my hotel fees and I would also prefer to travel with my dog thanks.
