I posted this under wrong forum, so I will repost here. I have been looking at DDR lines for a while now. A friend of a fried steered me to this litter. I've done a lot of research, but am still very green on these line. Can I get some opinions from owners, handlers, or just more experienced DDR people. Your time is greatly appreciated.  Thank You    Pete

What do you want out of the dog? It would be easier to say yes, no, or maybe you'll get what you're looking for from these lines if we knew precisely what you're trying to accomplish.

I know nothing about those dogs, but I know who does. I know vom Gildaf has a black female from them, and sentinelhartz used one of Kim's (I sure hope that is her name) dogs in breeding. If you contact them, they will be very honest as what they think.

Good luck on your research.

I have 2 females from this breeder, and I can honestly say that they are AMAZING!
EXCELLENT temperaments, very nice drives...no nerve issues at all.
They also have no health issues and very nice hips & elbows.

I would recommend her dogs. Just speak to Kim, and explain what you are exactly looking for......she will assist you in getting a really nice pup.
*If you have more questions, please feel free to PM me.*
Sincerely,
R.Huerta

I also have a pup from Kim, now two years old.  Kim has been honest and forthcoming every step of the way.  What stood out was how well the pup had been raised and cared for.  Without a doubt Kim had put time into this pup and it showed all in good ways.  The pup was exactly as Kim had described.  The health is there as is the temperament.  Good job, Kim!

This is just one person's experience and one dog, but I just wanted to mention this. My dog is a Dragon grandpup and is also linebred on Tino v Felsenschloss. He has digestive issues and had hemangiosarcoma at 3 years old. I also know that Dragon died fairly young (IMO - 8 years old I think?). Now, Dragon is just ONE dog in my dog's pedigree (and on the dam's side rather than the sire's side), and while Jack is linebred on Tino 4-3, he is also linebred Fenia v Zentaur 3-3. So, might not be a concern. My dog's sire also died young - possibly from bloat. Just thought I would throw that out there for consideration. I don't know anything about the other dogs, and it's just my anecdotal experience. PLEASE no one take this to mean I am disparaging any particular dog, or casting blame on any particular dog....just providing info to be taken in to consideration along with EVERYTHING else.

Oh, but I will say that Jack has excelled at herding (only limited by me being pregnant and having an infant), has high pack drive, enough prey to have fun with, strong guarding instincts, but I wish he had more confidence.

Very useful post, mollyandjack. If only everyone was so open, people would have a lot less "trial and error" when it came to dog health.

There are some nice old lines posted, and a couple dogs that NO inexperienced person should dare consider...and most experienced people wouldn't. The problem is the inexperienced don't know to ask until it's too late, so I say this: Know the bloodlines (and not just the specific parents) of the litter you're choosing with ANY puppy you're buying (this is not directed specifically at vom Anton or the OP- just a general "caveat emptor"). You can't tell by looking at an adorable 8 week old puppy what genetics it carries for what types of potential problems and no one wants to end up in a tough situation 2 years down the road if it can be avoided by extra homework.
