Susie.....I'm not saying I like the color, I'm saying I wouldn't waste that great working ability because of the color, Wouldn't it be pretty easy to eliminate the color by selecting who the dog is bred with, yet maintaining the other characteristics. Wouldn't it be similar to a dog that has color within the breed standard  but the pigment is a little washed out and when matched with the right pairing the pigment can be strengthened.

The German Shepherd is one of the most popular breeds worldwide.
That said there is NO reason to breed a faulty dog, there are still enough good ones out there.

What confuses me is this:

" He is a Dual Purpose NYS Police certified, active Duty, officer.
He also recently was certified as a Cadaver dog.  Here He is with some cocaine that is off the street because of him"

I could be wrong, but IME Dual Purpose means Patrol and Detection.  I have not seen any working Patrol dogs trained for two detection disciplines, for example cadaver and narcotics.  It is pretty much a recognized principle in detection dog training that dogs are not cross trained in other disciplines.  Especially, with a Narcotics trained dog or an Explosives dog.  Perhaps, NY State Police cross trains there dogs for everything????  I must have read this wrong or misunderstood something.

BahCan I agree wi9th Susie, today it's color, tomorrow it's angulation, etc etc. I'll tell you why I wouoldn't breed one regardless of his worthiness on the field--you say well you can breed that color out. Really? What you are doing everytime you breed the super blue stud or bitch, you are passing on recessive genes. How far back do you think those genes can go? My mentor said she got a black pup from 10 generations back. Personally the blues I was talking about came from 7 generations and slapped me in the face. I thought they were gray--I had never seen a blue or heard of them. When I found out, I got out the pedigree and the willis book an that's when I found out it all went back to Canto. You say well there is plenty of dogs to choose from and I can keep from doing that and getting more blues. Good for you. But one day, unless you keep strict records and know every dog and whatit throws, there's always that chance. I am a person who likes to linebreed and this winter I inbred--bro and sister-my first time. Now if I started with a dilute then what would I end up with? Yeah I'd hate to think of it too. My point of bringing that up was I had no whites, livers, blues, coats, retained testicles--the worst thing was a heart murmer and yes we put her down. 2 went for service dogs and 2 for working farm dogs.
Jim when I donated that puppy, Era, last summer--I fell in love with the coordinator of the program--I picked her brain a lot. One of my stipulations was if it turned out the dog wouldn't work, I wanted her back and I would. So she tells me about this lab/grt dane X someone had given them. He was too big for SAR and something else he wasn't good at, so the made him a place. Now he goes to couseling and the LEO department when they have a child that needs help, questioning or whatever. And she told me oh we will find a spot for her to shine. They're working on certification for cadaver dog now. She also told me the usual was they only did one thing at a time because they didn't want half ass dogs--they wantedtomake them the best. I don't know what they do in NY either. I only know what they do in Oklahoma and what my tribe does. But then you can tell by the way I write and my half ass knowledge that I'm just a country ndn. But while everyone does and says what they think is right, I'll still be plugging along doing what I think is right and I'll keep right on donating dogs to work because that's what our breed is--a working dog, no more, no less. Just my 2 cents.

solid blues and solid black littermates so everyone can see the difference.
beetree must have a picture of a blue tan and black/tan side by side. It is a mystery but some are darker blue some are lighter.

"I am a person who likes to linebreed and this winter I inbred--bro and sister-my first time." -vonissk

Did I hear right, Vonissk? You like linebreeding so much that this coming winter you have plans to inbreed with a full brother and sister? or shall I just simply put it this way, Incest. Your first time? Why do it it at all??? Isn't inbreeding like this highly illegal in the Verein für Deutsche Schäferhunde (SV)? Don't you follow SV rules in your breeding program? You do like to preach about the standards a lot so I assume you do.

4.3.2. Inbreeding
Breeding based on close blood relationships. One ancestor must be present in the pedigree at least once on the sire's and dam's side. Inbreeding also includes breeding between siblings. The term blood relationship is limited to the first five generations (inbreeding). Inbreeding is subdivided into:

4.3.2.1. Incest Breeding: Breeding between parents and offspring, grandparents and nieces and nephews, and also breeding between relatives of the 1st and 2nd degree (nieces and nephews or siblings and cousins). Inbreeding closer than 2-3 or 3-2, and among siblings, is not permitted.

No, Brittany, as usual, you do not have it right.

Geez Jenn she can't even read a sentence--LOL---it's all explained, all done, and I sure do talk about the standard and when it's time I'll talk about more. But right now it is futile to talk to you cause I am the wicked of Oklahoma--had you been around you could have caught it the first time with pedigrees and all. FYI----I subscribe to no clubs--I use the AKC and UKC for registry only.......................

vonissk, It's a rather simple question that I'm sure you don't need Jenni to answer for you. You can tell your friends to dislike my post all you want, but it still doesn't answer the question. Why are you going to practice Incest when you know it's highly illegal and immoral? And yes I can read, that's how I caught up to what you said. Why don't you explain to us what you meant when you said that? Are you that embarrassed that I highlighted something that you can't explain? Or would you rather insult me some more to past the time? PS, if you subscribe to no club then you have no right to preach about the standards.
