I see a few glimmers of hope here in Canada, with more breeders infusing German blood into their lines. Also, the GSDCC now has a TEC test (temperament test) that a GSD must pass before it can go 'select'.  It features a traffic-steady portion, pretty much lifted right from the BH test as well as the other standard temperament test requirements such as gun fire, friendly stranger, aloof stranger, strange noises (bucket of bolts) and a crazy stranger yelling and waving a stick.

Extreme angulation is still the order of the day, though, and some breeders can't be bothered checking hips, and do far too much 'linebreeding' [read: inbreeding!]

I THINK some breeders are pushing for at least one performance title before the dog can go select, too. Need to research that, as I am no longer a member.

Eddy, what makes you think those balanced dogs are not being produced ? There are always examples in life of what is not the ultimate goal, but, by focusing on that, you may be overlooking the dogs that are balanced and not extreme, in structure or temperament.

joanro i am sure some are being produced but i was mentioning it more as it becoming the norm.

can u post some of the dogs that are balanced?

Eddy, I can and will post what I think are balanced dogs.
The problem with your premise, " .... as it becoming the norm." is that people are diverse in what their perspective is concerning a balanced GSD, or some not taking balance into consideration at all. Therefore, there will always be diversity ( not speaking of versatility) within the breed. That's why when a person who wants a balanced dog needs to find the breeder producing them.

I was wondering this same thing after my visit with my breeder today! He explained the diversity between what the popular "showline" shepherds are today vs the more well balanced Shepherds like he breeds. I'm personally not a fan of what's "expected" nowadays from Kennel Clubs all over. I live in Belgium right now and the Kennel Club does not like GSDs unless they have the major hip slant. However the government here and Dept. of Agriculture are pushing to make well balanced GSDs with level hips a breed regulation. It makes since to me. Level hips make for a much more sound and healthy dog. The slanted hips is a guarantee health issue too early in the dogs life. But of course, everyone has their own opinion!

Here we go again -  Eddy, the troll, trying to suck us into participating in another of his side shows designed to pit the WL people against the SL people.
