I'm not a fan of taping, Beckett's ears were soft, but not folded, at 6 months. I tried taping & I set him back. If you do it, have someone with experience show you or do it for you. I have heard there are heavy felt inserts you can use, but I haven't found them. Beckett's ears have remained thinner than my other GSDs ears, but they stand firmly now, despite my aid, lol! So don't lose hope. Your girl is lovely, & has a winning, willing expression, regardless of her ear set. jackie harris

hello all  , thanks very much for information and if her ears dont go up or become lazy ears , you bet i wont breed her in my mind she will be just a pet, i wont breed any dog i dont feel has all the qualities i feel are necessary  to the standard. i am very picky about that, my thinking is if they dont go up, its  genetics and thats the way i see it,
i like good tail set, good  movement , good ears , good pasterns and good drive,  and temp and hips. this would be min for breeding for me.
i was just interested to know how long it can take ,  i will give her a year but i know it should not take that long , they have been up, so not sure if they will stay up or be up and down all her life, i have never had one  that never had one up full time by 6 months, so this is new for me. just my luck i always seem to get   the puppy that has the problems.
never had to change food etc.. to  have puppies ears up before, its genetics  and cant change that.

Jackie ~ how long did it take your dogs ears to go up?

Prager ~ thanks for the tip , i like the idea about the pigs ear and chicken feet.

i had a dog take 8 months for one ear to go up , but other one was up by 5 months, both of her ears on this one are down like the one in the picture like a airplane.  i am not happy.

thanks for all your help

Just my opinion.. The pink "old lady" soft, spongy, curlers cut in half then super glued inside is a sweet fit..(cleaned out with alcohol really well first, dont shave) and they fall out when they wear out.. the timing seems to work. I had to do this at the clinic for a customer dog's and they worked like a charm..(I don't judge the customers dogs)  Gave the ear just enough time up from the breakover point and no tipping!  Hope it all turns out ok! Beautiful dog!!! I personally wont 'tape' them.. but helping from the inside seems to work great..

Do not tape or fool with ears..Let them alone..Any taping can rudely misguide a crooked ear very easily and is not needed.

6 to 8 months on big ears of the kind your pup and he is big boned,..Yap took 8 months  of up and down..

My lines never had any that did not stand...just do as Prager posted

We were also concerned about our pups ears and she was well over 6 months before hers stood up. We added cottage cheese to her food daily gave her pet tabs and massaged her ears. She has very large ears and they are now up and beautiful.
Our male didn't have ears as big as hers and at 6 months his was up with no problems.

You don't need to tape the ears up, but if you would like to speed things up use:

Someone that got my dog Theo's brother glued her pups ears up with Fabric glue, it worked great and it wears off naturally.

Here are some before and after pics....
First picture of him at 16 weeks old, next pic him on the right 8 yrs old
