Bee. tree,  I only swouldsted contacting Karen because she is familar with the Caralon lines, not to do schutzhund.    Karen, I am sure, would be happy to share what she knows.

 Phantom was total dog. Hips structure and temperament. One of the few close to perfect dogs. 

Phantom was not known for producing stable temperament.

In what way? Can you be more specific? Mojo is famous for his "leaking drive". I always thought to put that on the "Arminius" side of things.

I have not seen Phantom's direct progeny but I had owned  and seen many dogs linebred on Phantom and they were just about  perfect. Hips, elbows temperament, balanced drives, p[igment, structure, bone,....  I am sure that there were some for one reason or another which who were not , but I would not shorten Phantom for that.  That is my experience.  I have known 2 people who knew Phantom and his progeny personally and I have never heard them to say  that Phantom produced questionable temperament on consistent basis. As a matter of fact thay like to see him in their pedigrees as a stud improver.

The fact is that dogs are famous for reason. They are good and produce good,..... and then comes critics.... Show me a famous dog which would not have critics lined up behind  each other and saying Me! ME! Me! I too can critique this famous dog.

And it is easier to snipe at those long gone, whose direct progeny are now gone, for now there is nothing to disprove someone from saying this or that. The fact that many reputable breeders wanted to use the dog for stud when he was living and could be observed & judged, & could see his direct progeny & observe & judge them...that speaks volumes to me. Looking back over decades & offering a critique, is it even useful?
