Hocking Hills, that's mange on her face.

by 1GSD1 on 18 July 2014 - 20:07

Agree, looks like mange. Immune system stressed, in heat, bred, litter etc, shitty food?, genetics?

Unless she was kept in very very poor conditions, full of parasites or other stresses to the immune system, I would not breed an adult who displayed mange like that. On a pup, I keep a more open mind while the immune system is maturing, but imo, a strong enough adult to consider breeding does not fall victim to demodex. JMO.

I knew sometime back Zella had got into a figh.. But I found out later it was MULTI fights .... Zella doesnt or didnt have mange that was my first thought! I did express my concerns to Alicia but she stated fights and she was at Jason .. So she put the blame on him.. Zella is a hard keep so i can imagine the stuff she gets into.. I was stated by Alicia Zella ripped away steel panels to get out then got into a fight.. Zella ha since grown all hair back.. Nice coat , she is usually on the thinner side.. Smaller female ... But like I said my first thought when I got her here and seen that on her face was Mange.

Now Zella on her muzzle on the top has like 5 white hairs But those never fell out nor changed.. Also seen pics of her in Germany with the same white hairs on the top of her nose..

Zella is doing well .. Training now  for her SCHH1

These pics of Zella in Germany Training with Horst Sitzmann..

So you had it scraped and it tested negative for demodex? Or you're thinking because you didn't have to treat it that it wasn't mange? Just because it grew back doesn't mean it wasn't mange. I've never seen dog fight scars that look like that around the eyes. White hairs, yes, those can be from wounds, but not patchy hair around eyes and ears. I had one that escaped a crate scrape her eye like that but it was scabby and obviously a wound- hair grew back immediately. The patchiness and the pattern shown....that's mange, in my experience. A scraping could prove me wrong, but the eye pic screams mange to me. She is looking better now, that's for sure!
