Are you sure that the son is a son of the dad?  Aside from the anatomical differences in the front end and the shoulder/neck they are listed as almost exactly one year apart on age which means that dad would have been bred around 9 1/2 months old.  Are the dates and pedigrees correct?

I have not looked at Magnum's offspring very much, as he's not my cup of tea, but it does look like that kennel (Amalaberg) likes to breed their studs when they are still quite young. Here's another one of their dogs that was sired when the sire was just a little more than a year old:

I certainly hope they at least do preliminary OFA x-rays before breeding!

Aha, I have a question, if you feel it is way off topic just disregard it. Does age of stud affect quality of Offspring, I hear best sperm is when stud is 4+, is that true?

Don't like Geck. Head to heavy and too much angulation in the rear.

Sperm no, eggs maybe.  That's a long discussion though. 

I've always heard that sperm CAN be less viable as a dog gets older.   Not enough testing of motility done,

people just go on selling stud service, in the main, and then bitch owners wonder why so many don't  "take" .

Failure to conceive - or failure to finally whelp - is open to many problems, including the reduced potential

of aging ova;  but there are less people breeding older bitches, I believe, than there are who go on breeding

their males into later years.

Don't know as that is about quality of offspring, though;  it certainly applies to number of  offspring.

SS, although I know nothing about their breeding program or philosophies [their website says that all their dogs are OFA'd hips & elbows, and that's certainly not happening on dogs under 2 yrs of age unless they're referring to prelims only], the pedigree for what appears to be Magnum's grandpups is more likely a test pedigree at the moment, based on the 'name' that's used-- 'chiots gama et zenon' is French for 'puppies of gama and zenon'.

Hexe, that is a possibility, but if you look at the birthdates of the other males in the pedigree,  you'll see it's also possible this mating is for real, or soon will be!

MK, unfortunately I agree with you on that, but you will be hard pressed to find a current V or Va dog that doesn't fit that description, and many are much, much worse than Geck!  He's definitely one of the better ones.

You've also hit on the main reason I am not interested in Magnum as a potential sire for future litters.
