Joanro, you may well be right, but I don't know for sure, Who does?

by joanro on 31 December 2014 - 20:12

Blitzen, the only way to know is to test them.

by Blitzen on 31 December 2014 - 20:12

Of course. Who would argue against that.

how does anyone objectivley determine that the breed is better or worse now than previously on a whole population basis.

the nostaligic anecdotes of a few people's opinions that were around in the 70's is hardly objective imo.

i get dog breeders are mostly about emotions, hype and anecdote, facts should come into it somewhere.

also why are people talking about showlines, some posters always inject them into the discussion, breeding for shows is a world unto itself with it's own rules and own standards and should not be mentioned when discussing the german shepherd dog.

This thread is not about showline versus working line !!!!!!

by vk4gsd on 31 December 2014 - 21:12

Brady BEE, true, let's not make it about that.

it is about the GSD and according to the creator everyone likes to quote, the GSD is a working dog, thanks, i agree.

aside: for the record i have no problems with show or pet dogs, if you are looking after yr dog (any dog) and take them out of the kennel everyday and spend quality time with them and give them physical and mental stimulation and challenges then you are OK by me.

im not putting one against the other but the willness to work in real unscriped suitions instead of a show work thats the real willnesss to work for a gsd for me only my veiw but i agree wiy vk when u put time into any dog training effection ect you deserve what ever dog u get by the way i have showline as well as work line because the training is fun and not as serious as work line

Templar, I´m not really interested to get involved into this discussion, but it´s more than unfair to compare a proven strong dog handled and trained by one of the best working dog breeders during a training session in its comfort zone to the weakest dogs on a show. That´s ridiculous.

The video above shows some good dogs. These dogs are not trained for top sport, some of them simply are "show dogs"  running in circles all of their life. Strange surrounding for at least 4 days, a lot of strange noises (yelling people, another helper and dog working at the same time ), strange helper, a lot of stress.

Let´s stay fair.
