Decoys yes tho the suit is not heavily padded in that area thus the lack of willing helpers.

Perps apparently not so much but who would think you need a steel cup to go about your daily criminal activities :))

To Shawn

"lol this is why I can't take anyone here seriously .. first of all 98% of the contributions on these post are from people who've never owned a working dog or currently do but own or raise rescues and mutts and foster rejects but somehow are experts in The matter ."

Note re 73lb dog on earlier posts read entry SchH3 IPO3 VPG3 TD H.O.T.= handler owner trained at the time of training & trialing I walked with arm crutches so as a result Remy free tracked & retrieved the object to me which is a much higher level of difficulty.

I have also owned, bred (pointed, titled, police & service dogs) shown&trialed(herding, obedience, schutzhund) gsds as well as being a student & steward of the breed since 1963. Those are my credentials.

We're still waiting for links to & photos of your 95+lb dogs doing any of the above.

I note under your profile you have entered 3 dogs. Are these yours? All young so plenty of time to work them but I noticed that two come from a bitch line of 3 generations of untitled bitches w/ no health clearances and the third from a sire & dam that only have a BH. Were you perhaps referring to yourself in the above quoted post?

My bad. Was feeling a bit pissy after reading his comments. Not taking a word of it back tho.

Oh and Shawn forgot to mention I've rescued more cats & dogs than I ever bred and yes some of the dogs stayed on such as 16 yr old Smokey who immediately took the shepherds well in hand. So you know loving & working good gsds doesn't exclude you from being kind to those in need.

by Allan1955 on 16 February 2017 - 10:02

1955 stands for the year i got my first GSD, living in Germany so yes i am an old man,\ As i recall there has been at least three slight changes to the standard through the years. If memory serves me wright the max of a male GSD was 42kg or 92/93lbs. Back then a 90lbs malinois was not a rare sight on a KNPV field. The east European and some east German shepherds were bigger and heavier for practical reasons, so they can withstand the Siberian cold.

About speed, well that is power to weight ratio, the current fastens human on earth Hussein Bold is not a small guy by any means.Just wached the six nations Rugby match these guys are naturals at their weight. As long as a well build 95lbs dog  is a natural there is no reason to think that the dog can,t be as fast or work as well as a 70lbs dog. For those of us whom did not do allot of helpers work, believe me you will notice the difference when you catch a 95lbs one with tremendous bite force.

So in this case i agree with Shawnicus.

I think the gsd is supposed to be an endurance dog not a sprinter.

Hussein Bolt never won no marathon, your comparison does not show a lot of respect for the breed.

by Allan1955 on 16 February 2017 - 10:02

VK, that is true, my comparison is about a 70lbs dog is faster and supposedly work better than a 95lbs. The most heard statement these days.
