Here is my point. As Vikram says, there is no monitoring here. And probably the owner is very interested in income.

However, this is still the largest and potentially informative GSD board in the world  (that I know of)

So what if Oli makes money, he still provides this service.

So, if these same stupid people persist to spoil this board. O.K. I persist to call them stupid.

At least Oli split the board so there is a forum, very clearly labled "German Shepherd".

NO.

The rules were General DOG RELATED stuff on the General Forum.  GSD stuff on the GSD forum.  YOU are the one not following the rules.

[agrees with Vikram]

The experienced posters on the site get sick of all the drama. Sometimes they are attacked by the trolls and less experienced posters, which is what drove Hodie away. Louise came back to help me out when my bitch was bleeding internally following a botched spay, and commented she didn't bother with the board much because there were very few informative threads. Here's what she said:

Sunsilver: Too bad Louise and Hodie aren't around anymore.

While I can't speak for Hodie, I will admit that I rarely post on this or any other forum. During the past 6-12 months, the PDB has become somewhat of a "soap opera"--JMHO.

When it comes posting on boards, I'm a "meat and potato" person--I thrive on something of substance. If I want to communicate with a poster, I've grown to do so via PM, private email, or telephone call.

The inexperienced people who come here to learn often get attacked by the experienced posters. Witness a thread on the general forum today. A lady posted a thread, asking for help rehabilitating a  5 year old GSD. Immediately someone jumped on her and accused her of being a sock puppet for another poster!

Nice way to attract new posters to the site....NOT!!

The only way to fix this, IMO, is for Oli to grow a pair, and appoint moderators who can stop all the crap. And OT posts not relevant to dogs should either not be allowed, or put in a separate forum!

Just my 2 cent's worth....

Edit: Here's the way people tend to treat newcomers here, which results in them leaving the forum, along with other experienced GSD people who can't stand this sort of rudeness:
Wow, doesn't matter to me if she's purebred or not. She is spayed, and I got a rescue dog, not because I could not afford a "nice" dog, but to keep a dog from being euthanised because she was no longer wanted by whoever owned her before. I made no claims about her quality or lack thereof. She is a pet, end of story. I appreciate that some people were friendly and helpful, but the others of you have certainly turned me off of this forum, not to mention dog breeders and fanciers in general. Years ago I had a rescue horse, with a lip tattoo (done with race horses for id) and two brands, and access to his previous two owners. I still did not get very far, except to id his breed and one of the brand's owners. Still, it was the search that was fun and the possibility of finding out some information. I had never had a dog where I was given a birthdate (this is my third dog, all rescues) so I thought that it was something to start with. I would not have assumed much of anything about her had her previous owner not told the shelter she was a pb with papers and given them a birthdate. I was not looking for her history with an eye to breed her and sell her pups or any nonsense like that. As I mentioned, she is spayed, and the search was purely for my own knowledge and entertainment. I was pointed to this forum by a breeder, but with the attitude, I will certainly not bother to attempt to get help here again.

I'm new to posting here but I don't get all the drama....OK, so I've figured out a few people and just ignore their posts, big deal.  I don't mind the off-topic threads (don't read them, but don't care if they exist).  It seems there's a bigger issue of people posting GSD stuff in the General forum than an issue with having general threads.  If I don't care I don't read it.  Of all the boards I read this one is definitely the "slowest" but there's some good stuff and some smart people.

Liesjers,

There's been a change on the board...

Apparently this GSD forum, which is now divided into two forums, is like this:

GSD side, is for only those very experience clique of people who feel secure in their personal knowledge of the breed and want to talk to only those who are experienced as they are, and not be bothered by newbies or anyone who does not fit their criteria.

General Topic: this is for all dog related stuff posted by those who are not considered to be experts by the experts.  Anyone considered to be a BYB for whatever reason, those of us who only have a rescue GSD, those who have American lines GSD, and so forth.

I've grown tired of the drama on this forum.  So what if you don't like an OT thread?  Don't read it, that's all.  Clicking the abuse button on everything that you don't think belongs here is somewhat childish in nature, and is a waste of Oli's time.  The nasty remarks about "Oli and the money he makes off this site, so why should he care?" was just plain mean spirited.  Oli has a life outside this board, and the abuse button needs to be used only when there's actually something to complain about, like palerider's filthy language, and pornographic postings..That's abuse, not a political thread, or a post about a kennel that someone here thinks can do no wrong.

If you don't like the political threads, ignore them.  They'll go away, or they won't.  But if you don't click on them, or respond to them, then you're not stirring the pot.

And as for responding on threads asking for help, if you have nothing constructive to say, maybe you shouldn't respond to them either.  No one needs your nasty remarks...Such as the poster who responded to Horsephoto's thread...saying that her dog wasn't a purebred and should be spayed...I don't know many rescues that let you have an unaltered dog, so that comment was outright rude and ill thought out.  How do you know the dog's not a purebred?  Have you personally run a DNA test to be sure?

Just my two cent's worth, but I'm asking that some of you learn to be a little less nasty.

I've been a member of this board for 6 years now.  and before I took a hiatus and changed my screenname, I was a member for another 4 years.  thats 10 years of me visiting this board.  I have rarely attacked someone, and try my best to not be rude.  I have not been a part of some of the hateful threads that ran people like Hodie off the board.

RIK, you have been a member for 1 year,  you have taken it upon your self to be rude, mean and hateful to quite a few members.  its types like you who have ran a good deal of knowledgeable people off this board.  You say I think I am an expert on many subjects,  I have denied this repeatedly.  I don't know everything.  all I can do is relay my experiences and what I have gathered from books and more experienced breeders.  But you sir,  have repeated posted topics and comments which seem to imply you think you are an expert and only your opinion is right.

If Oli and the rest of the board seem it fit to ban me and a few others, so be it.

by Bob McKown on 28 July 2009 - 21:07

Rik:

I don,t know where you are from nor do I care but it seems that ever since you popped up on this board you have a high opinion of your self and you get testy when you feel some one isn,t playing by your rules or disagrees with your opinion.

Instead of throwing down insults and demanding your way or the highway why don,t you set down and chill out for a moment. There are very good conversations going on here, lots of info passing and yes lots of off topic stuff that can be amuzing to many if it,s not excersise your rights and don,t read it.

My brother be still, life is to short for all this excitment over nothing.

And by the way, Louise is still here.  She posts when someone needs her help, and is always here to answer a question from a fellow dog lover.  She may not post here on this side much anymore, but that's likely because the new experts have proven to her that they do not need her assistance.  Myself, I am glad to know that she is still here.

 Rik,

Just taking a stab at it here, but I'm guessing you don't get out a lot. You may be getting a little too "E"- excited man. And, if these persons upset you that much, you could always start your own site....... Just a thought. Then you could ban your "E" enemies.

I do however agree that some of the threads I have read have become quite harsh to some pretty basic questions from people asking for help.

Best Regards,
