Please define what 'hard' means to you, and what you are looking for in a dog from a line or kennel in your research.

For me a hard dog dominates the helper or suspect with a crushing full grip bite, a serious dog who intimidates people with his hold and bark like Max van Tiekerhook, i am not experiened enough to define hardness in full detail but this is what i understand hardness to be simplisticly.

I am looking for dogs that will produce dogs suitable for LE, from my future breeding program i am looking to create dogs that are balanced and level headed with hardness as well as having good structure.

I am looking for dogs that do not have Fero in their bloodlines.

intimidating kind of bark and strong bite not necessarily will be converted into hardness during confrontation.
dog can be quiet and calm but incredible bold and stubborn in fight and wise versa - noisy like hell but back out if encounters hardship.
the only way to figure out is to put the dog through serious and harsh test, which seems nobody doing nowadays.

Intimidating bark can often stop an encounter before it starts. I would have no problem putting a dog through a "serious and harsh" test as long as the person testing is not wearing a sleeve or bite suit...you know, kinda equal the playing field...

xPyrotechnic: Why no Fero? What dogs do you like?

by ValK on 21 August 2020 - 13:08

Hired Dog, on such condition it could take eternity before (if ever) opportunity for test arise. but if chance do come true it could be too late.

Q Man, dog who holds well very significant physical and psychological pressure.

Valk, I have yet to meet a person who wanted to test a dog like that and I will most likely never meet one, but, I have met hundreds who were very willing to show me what "men" they were AFTER they put the suit on...I have zero interest in that.
Look, bottom line, few people can deal with a dog that is willing to actually engage with them, the human mind is not equipped to deal with that kind of encounter which is why I believe that a dog with a really hard entry that folds a human in half like a napkin, has already won the fight. Most encounters with dogs last a few seconds at the most until the handler starts calling the dog off, etc.

in general you're right. but exceptions exist. if not, there wouldn't be injured and killed dogs in line of duty.
that's why for purpose of possible standing against human opponent the dog should fit few criteria - size/physical strength, psychological readiness and skill.
