I’m new to the German shepherd. The puppies been great so far. I understand my dogs from working lines, and I would like to try Igp with him. Any thoughts on his breeding  http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/german_shepherd_dog/dog.html?id=3026829-tommy-boy

You have a nice looking pup and with his pedigree, it looks like you could go many different ways with him. Have fun

Mix of lines, but largely Work-capable. See (early) posts commenting on other current thred: "What type of Shepherd do I have ?" for some info about what the possibilities are. All the best with your new puppy, hope you are successful in getting him doing IGP. Have you found a Training Club yet ?

I have not found a club yet. But have been working with a trainer on a sport foundation. What region would you say the dog is predominantly from still trying to figure out how to read the pedigrees.

Country dog registry initials:

  • SZ = Germany (some W. German & E. German dogs in ped)
  • NHSB = Netherlands
  • LOSH = Belgium

Your pup's mother is 1/2 W. German show lines (on the dam side), but the rest is working lines mostly.

Check out sport clubs in your area (not sure what country/region you're in) and see if that sort of dog training appeals to you.   Whatever training you do, the time spent interacting and bonding with your dog is what's important.   Have fun!

Also google California schutzhund for other clubs in your area.  Not sure if there is still an active DVG group around there or not.  I'm in Canada so not sure of your 'local' sport scene.   Besides schutzhund there's also PSA.
