I guess I look at it as my genes gained experience over time. :}

Perfectly said Rick or called Evolution

Why don’t we see a high percentage of Labrador Retrievers in Schutzhund? Genetics! They were not bred for those attributes. Btw, evolution happens very slowly and over a very longtime.

Some people will deny the importance of genetics or the influence, good or bad, they have over the dog's behavior, they believe that environment and training will cure all the short comings of the lack of proper genetics, so be it...

Exactly! There's a lot of denial regarding the influence of genetics, especially in certain breeds.

yep HD. back in the day,a lot of Am. SL were "spooks". I notice other terms are used for other lines, but it's the same. the breeders always denied it was the breeding.

"all the pup needs is exposure" was the common reply. I spent a lot of time in front of tractor supply, etc. getting them "exposure". hey, you want to pet my pup, maybe give him a treat.

one day it hit me how stupid this was as it never helped. I'm a little slow on the uptake, but eventually I get there. and I have seen just as "spooky" in Euro w/l and s/l. if they are born that way no amount of "nurture" makes it better.

jmo,
Rik

You are exactly right Rik, if the dog is born genetically deficient, no amount of training will fix it, but, if its good training, it can cover it up. I have seen many WL spooks, dogs that looked solid on a big green field, or even the street, but, would fall apart if you dropped your keys on the floor in the house.
"Its because he has not been exposed to that"....to what, keys falling, are you serious..."yes, I am"....there is no curing that Rik.
