The added photo was from the 1910 book of von Stephanitz, The German Shepherd Dog in word and picture. This is a better picture of this dog, makes him more justice. You can observe a better ear setting a much better head angle, very nice and masculine face expression. The dog was a distinguishable German Shepherd. Good upper arm, good pasterns, a very good front for that time. The dog looks big and impressive.

Whelped Oct 3, 1899.

Color, though perhaps brindled, supposedly basically black & tan.

Described by some (including now) as a brindle, which apparently has died out.
Highly influential dog (otherwise!).
