Doomsayer, what do you mean under a kennel floor? Do you mean under a concrete pad? OR, are you asking what to use for the flooring itself?

I'm thinking under a kennel floor which would be porous. I'mnot even considering concrete as in my experience has been to hard on the dogs elbows and hips. I am considering some type of synthetic floor very either cedar shaving, crushed rock or something. I feel I have to have some thing s under the kennel. It not for living in more for giving the dogs there own place in the yard

I would do it similar to what we also use for our Horse Stalls. A combination of layerd sand, pea gravel, more sand..etc.......this helps the urine to flow through and you get better drainage. The also make rubber mats, or a crumbled form of rubber made from recycled tires which would give the legs some relieve :) Beth

Poured-in-place rubber is used in equestrian facility but can be utilized in kennels as well. It's seamless, non-porous, indestructible, great product.

Good layer of sand should do the trick.

Has anyone tried the Instant kennel floor found at www. kennelfloor.com It is made of recycled rubber. It is nonporous and is supposed to drain well.
