I never knew that WL's and SL's needed different styles of training.  That could only have come from a very experienced trainer. Thanks.

Unfortunately, the internet doesn't convey tone so I'm not wholly sure of your sarcasm. I'm not saying showlines are some great mystery that only dog training gurus can solve. I'm saying they, like every other dog, of any breed or bloodline, deserve a trainer/handler who has a desire to understand them.

Are you talking to me? If so I only meant what I said as a compliment to you. I'm so sorry if it came off otherwise.

VonIsenGard great points! I agree completely. Showlines need a trainer who have a desire to understand them. Unfortunately people hear all of these rumors about how crappy the showlines work, they see one and immediately write them off as crappy. Not understanding the differences in what they need to work, they are called dull and lacking in drive and working ability.

I have been told by a poor trainer who is into pitbulls and working lines that I was going to "ruin" my showline by giving corrections... That is a close minded and biased opinion based on nothing but rumors.

I'm glad to see a knowledgable person who works their showlines come on an explain this. You put it into words far better than I ever could.

No worries, Blitzen. As I said, the written word lacks tone and this board certainly gets my "defensive drive" up and running. ;) I appreciate the kind words, but really, all one needs is an open mind and exposure to different types of dog.

I wonder how showlines who have been owner/handler trained do at the sieger show in bitework in comparison to those who were shipped out for training and titling.  I suspect those that are HOT do better but that's just a guess on my part.  It would be interesting for someone to research and see what comes of it.

I was deeply inspired by the bond that Ravi Iyer had with his (sadly now departed) SL dog Juneau. I hope neither he or the mods mind me copying this from a past thread, as to me this is the essence of what this thread is about.  Just wonderful.
