The correct behavior in front of Lifestock guardian dogs - Page 2

From several sources that I've read about Livestock Guardian Dogs, the dangle stick is often used to prevent the dog from chasing the stock.     In Europe the use of LGD's is diminshing it seems, but in N. America there are increasing needs for LGD's and more interest from ranchers and farmers.    I have long been a supporter of using LGD's for protecting stock in the rugged and mountainous areas of this continent, rather than trying to eliminate the natural predator presence.  

I am agreeing with vk4gsd. The idiot feeding the dogs is just like someone wanting to play with a seeing eye dog. Immature and short sighted.

It was appalling, and I have had to contend was those animal -savvy- deficient self centered jerks all my adult life.

i am heading over to the comments section of the idiotic second clip and will leave some scathing comments to try educate viewers on the idiotic destructive and clueless jerk who made it.

I was born and raised on a big farm in south america. My parents were second generation livestock guard dog breeders. We bred mostly filas for this purpose and trained them aswell for police work.

These dogs were ment to guard livestock against big predators like a mountain lion or jaguar, aswell as cattle thiefs and they will fight to death.

In the first clip you may have a slim chance to get away safely as long as you stay at bay, but in the second you certainly get serious enjury if not killed.

It depends on the dog that is on the job. You can't do that on a well bred/ trained fila watch. jmo.
