I've read that KBD's are very difficult to own (similar to Basinji's) because they are a primative dog, hunter oriented and very strong willed. I'm just curious about how much of this is true.

Although they can be that way, with good socialization and training they make better pets, on average, than a Basenji does (I have experienc with both breeds).  I find that the purebred Karelians are more gentle in temperament than most ot the KBD/REL mixed dogs here in the US.

I have a purebred Karelian and a KBD/REL mix and I must say my mix (male) is far more layed back than my purebred (female). My female is much more aggressive than my male.
