You can’t just base the question on comparing breeds. You have to go by the individual dog.

Dutch Shepherd are more or less Belgian Malinois. Do not forget that it was the same country during many centuries. Some people even call the Dutch Shepherd: Malinois with stripes. You have everything on the internet to compare a Malinois with a GSD. I have always heard that if you want to go to IGP you should take a GSD and if you want to go to MondioRing or French Ring a Malinois is better because in IGP you have tracking and you do not want the extra energy of a Malinois/Dutch Shepherd, and you prefer to have a more focused dog like the GSD.
I train my Malinois with Dobermans, GSD, Beaucerons and so on and seriouly the most important is how many hours you train your dog and not really which breed you have.

There are FCI registered DS’s that are not nearly as good for work or sport compared to KNPV line DS’s which are actually unregistered Mal X’s. If the pups are fawn they call them Mals. If they are brindle, they call them DS’s. Coat color has no correlation to temperament.

There is a Dutchie in my sport club - she is smaller and lighter than a GSD, has good drives (prey and defence) and has springs for legs, lol.

The serious ones are A LOT of dog for most people and may not be well suited for IGP. They would do better in the ring sports, NVBK and KNPV.
The ones that are more prey driven then anything else would most likely excel in IGP, like they would in most other sport related fields.

There appear to be fewer and fewer serious, old type temperament in the KNPV lines. Van Leeuwen still breeds the serious type of DS but they pretty much keep their dogs in Holland and definitely don't let their best dogs go out of country. They won't even ship a dog/pup.

Apple, there are not that many people who can handle the type of dogs he breeds. They would represent huge control issues for most handlers here, even in LE. Nice dogs, but, not for the faint hearted.

I agree and think that is a large part of the reason so few dogs like that are bred.
