Recently, my GSD mix killed one of my cats and as a result was sent to the pound. I wish to acquire another dog, but have decided against getting another shepherd. My father had a collie when he was young and all of the ones I have ever encountered have been very nonaggressive dogs that were good around cats.

I do not want a puppy. I want a dog that I can trust to leave at home for a few hours or take with me to horseshows when I travel cross-country. I'd prefer a classic-looking collie (like Lassie) or a tricolour and would prefer a male as I tend to get along better with male animals than females for some odd reason.

This is not going to be a show dog or a breeding animal. It is just going to be a pet. However, I want this pet to be around for years to come, so I want to make sure that the dog I get has no history of health problems. I don't mind adopting a dog from a rescue, as long as I don't have to jump through hoops. Just bear in mind that I do not intend to drop a load of money on a dog when I can probably just wait a few more months for one of the local shelters to get one in.

I'd prefer this dog to be in the Virginia or North Carolina area, as I can then easily drive to pick it up if I decide to adopt or buy it. It can also be in Northeast Texas, as my mother will be flying out there next month for a meeting and could visit the dog herself and possibly pick it up if the dog is ideal.

If you have, or know of a collie that needs a home, please send me an email at redundantferret@yahoo.com
