Right (I am watching the show now).  I did notice that many in the Herding group were not baited.   It just seemed odd to me how intensly many of the breeds/dogs were.

By the way, I am watching the US Nationals.  I like the ability to record and watch when I have time (a bit late on the upswing, though Regular Smile)

Thank you, Fawn and Blitzen - sometimes google translate doesn´t help.

" Susie - For me:  The constant of having food right in front of their nose during the stand for inspection part of the judging."

I can only talk for SV style shows, we don´t tend to use food during the stand ( maybe some do it, but it´s not common), but during the stack the owner is standing in front of the dog (several meters behind the judge), so the dog is looking for the owner.
During the show we mostly use our voices, toys, or whistles ( and are running around the ring Red Smile )

susie; look up a few spaces to see another form of baiting. Blitz, i show every dog I own once in conformation. They need it for the breed survey. The national organization need them to raise money, They are good PR. They are too abstract to be a breed test. The great  von Stephaniz saw little need for them over working trials- still a truth today

Fawn, in many AKC breeds expression is a big part of breed type. How the dog holds it's ears when alert, does the dog have furrows between it's ears and/or on it's foreskull when alert, does the dog show the correct expression per their breed standard.  Do sighthounds have the correct "glaze".  Baiting is used to show off those traits to the judge. Baiting in the AKC show ring is a tradition that began long before most of us were even born. It's a big part of showing the AKC way.

Now I´m lost in translation...
"susie; look up a few spaces to see another form of baiting."

Our "baiting" is different, but we do bait. Is this correct?
Student, the show rating in itself is no breed test, never has been, it´s a single part of the whole. Nobody is forced to show a dog more than once, but showing a good looking dog on the Siegershow is fun and money, no difference to trialing a good working dog on the Siegerprüfung.

At that point it´s about competition, not about breed worthiness any more.

agreed susie; Your other post today about our sieger Show and depending on Germany is because too many USA  GSD people do not see the worth of complete breed program or attempt to adhere to it

Ah.  Now it makes sense.  Thanks for the clarification Blitzen.   That also somewhat explains some of the goofy looking things the handler was doing just before the trot in front of the judge.

Fawn, when I showed my bitch to her UKC championship no baitingw as allowed. In fact, in one class, she had to do a natural stack. No tight leads either...they are more a working dog registry
