Also, kennels never want the defective dog back. They don’t want to deal with it. If they choose to honor their guarantee you now have two dogs. If this doesn’t work for you, you’re left finding a home for one of them. If you purchased and imported the defective pup with intentions of breeding you just suffered at least a 6 month set back. Likely longer. In Europe they examine hips at 1 year. In U.S. O.F.A. Will not certify hips until 2 years. Only recently did they start “preliminary inspections”. If you find out that your dogs hips are rated “fair” or “poor” at the age of 2, you just lost 4 years of breeding from one dog. That’s nearly the entire breeding period of a GSD bitch.

So if you’re intending on breeding and want the “clout” of an imported dog, spend more money on a trained older dog that is ready to breed, or has already been bred. On PDB you also see plenty of imported bitches that are close to whelping, or bitches that have been bred in Europe and can be imported pregnant.

If your looking for that most enjoyable puppy experience use a broker. A reputable broker will also have references and will be more than happy to share them with you. Call them. Look at the area codes on the numbers. Look for area codes all over the country. You’ll find that the references will give honest opinions. John from EuroHound said that he has a Facebook page. Look at it. See if he allows customers to rate and post comments. I am certain that he does not have a 100% satisfaction rate. That’s impossible. Find a bad rating and see what was done to resolve the issue. If you can see this info then John is honest and reputable. If you only see positive ratings that are all worded the same and sound familiar, stay away. I suspect that John is someone that can be trusted based on his post to this thread. Only one way to find out.
