I’m interested in hearing about strong bitches- who do you like? What bitch lines consistently produce strong females? Specifically I means tough, not sharp, not nervy. Solid, aloof, indifferent, a bitch that can settle when not on the field but brings heart to the work. A unicorn maybe?

Sharpness is probably one of the most desirable instinctive behaviors I look for in a female GSD. Without it you have a Golden Retriever, or a really nice dog to take on the sport field.   Aloof, tough, hard, indifferent, solid mean nothing to the GSD without sharpness.  Makes a great field lab though.

I disagree. You can have a balanced bitch that is not sharp and still brings it to the field. What bitches do you like?

I couldn’t agree with you more.  A balanced bitch without sharpness can still bring it to the field.   However, a balanced bitch with sharpness will bring it off the field as well.   One of those two don't need to be trained to bite, it's an instinctive behavior.

I tend to like the ever elusive female that can produce the bite reflex in her female offspring.  Almost all of these dogs, either through sire or dam, will eventually go back to Jana Glockeneck.

GSD are supposed to bite.  And not just a sleeve.  And not just on command.  And not just because they were trained to do so.

Good Czech bitches, too

@Dugan

She seems to have produced nicely from what I see in her progeny. Thank you. Why do you like her? Do you have experience with her or her offspring?

by VDKH on 24 July 2020 - 11:07

@EmoryG
Will take time to research her offspring since she goes back several generations. Thank you for the input 😊

Noditha vom Teufelsgrund is behind a lot of top dogs today, but I think she needed to be balanced.
