Thanks Voniisk for your sharing of your business strategy plan. Also for trying to understand what I am talking about without having to agree. I do appreciate it.

Im trying to get through everyones responses.
however I will say this-
I have absolutely no issue with paying for quality.
My main reason for bringing this up is, why is it you can find working dogs of other breeds from excellent stock, that are healthy and coming from educated breeders for far less than the GSD. I simply dont get why you cant even start looking at gsd puppies for less than 1500$ if you simply look at most sites online, however most are well above this mark.
many have argued this is due to quality, testing, and expense/upkeep to the breeder. If this is the case then why is it other breeders can make money in other breeds for far less. I mean these people rate there dogs, title their dogs, do every necessary tests a person had to for a gsd and has all the same expenses so if these arguments apply then why is this the case. To me it just proves those arguments are mute and most are just out for the coin.
Also, For those whom stated that the customer doesnt have the right to question the seller is simply incorrect. I mean does anyone like getting ripped off. Do you all pay sticker price for a new car????
So in all realism what is a fair price for an 8 week old pup out of descent dogs and is well taken care of????
Now I do 100% agree knowledge and timing equals cheaper dogs. A lot of people like to know a dog is going to a good home and is like free advertising for them if good dogs are in good hands.
Thank you those whom PM'd me on this topic. I know it can get heated on here.

(Check out Bullingers website, and you don,'t get more devoted than that). While the pet buyer may not know ALL the great dogs that are in their pups pedigree when they walk out the door with their new family addition, I, as the breeder do. And, they still have both arms and legs as when they pulled in.
Some of the posters here are not in it for the money.
The ones that can account for every dime spent, clearly are.

Demand
Or more simply, because they can.
If some dogs are overpriced than you should have no problem finding something similar, cheaper. If you cannot, and if they are selling, how is their price too high?
If you have somthing someone wants and dont have an issue selling it, how can anyone say it is too expensive?
You compare to other breeds. Do you think BMW cares what Honda is selling their cars for? Will they lower the price because of this? Maybe, if BMW's were hard to sell.
You can say well Mals and Dutch work just as well, probably, but its all about perception and preference isnt it? If enough people felt that way to the extent it started to effect sales of GSD's then of course prices would gradually come down.
Again, supply and demand. Precieved value etc etc yada yada. We all love this breed. But no matter how much we love them they still have a pricetag therefore subject to market demand. Selling practices by individual breeder aside, that is the way of it. Basic economics really.
Read the posts in my link above. Might help.

Vonissk -Thanks for the comment
We had a great Canada Day training session for that video.
Just to touch upon some of the points made in this thread;
Who is worse, Fraud artists who represent themselves as Professional Breeders (whether for hobby or business) or potential Clients who can lie like a sidewalk?
We have sold pups for as much as $2,500 and as little as $400, the one thing All of these pups have in common is that we have raised them with the best care and foundation work possible. Our price depends on many factors, which is no one's business but ours. Don't like the price......keep walking " these are not the Droids your looking for".
We have retired Dogs to new homes - Free of Charge. And when I say retired I do not mean that the dog is too old to work, average age is around six (6) years of age and many of them are still working. The catch is......you have to convince us that our K9 Pirate is going to be taken care of.
There are a number of people that frequent this forum that have received a retired dog from us - no charge. We are preparing to retire another dog to a new home, just over six (6) years of age. We won't be looking for money, but it will be a local home that has convinced us that our K9 Pirate will be taken care of by competent people.
Competent people, simply competent..... are rare in my experience.
Let's talk about time spent with potential clients; phone calls, e-mails, videos etc. All of these take time away from our daily lives, sometimes....you might even get a polite response saying "thank you, if I have any further interest I will get back to you". Fair enough, it goes with the territory.
There are "Professional Looky-loos" out there that waste your time asking questions etc., and they have no intention of buying a pup.
Fair enough, it goes with the territory. Having said that....it needs to be taken in to account.
Anyone who wants to bash or condemn the seller of a pup, should either go somewhere else and buy a "Wal-Mart priced" genetically weak dog (which after they have bonded with it) will cost them thousands of dollars in vet bills. Or....find your own brood bitch, find a stud and breed your own pups.
Then, come back and tell us in detail what it cost you? Instead of asking us to justify our prices.
Kim
